Kantien — Restaurant in Ghent

You can find 'fancy' beers, meaning not the usual but more these new kinds of small brewery that try to be a hipster brewery. But they also have the normal usual selection of beer. The wine is of good choice, you won't be disappointed there. (At least the bottles we tried). The food is tasty. But for tapas, some of them could be a bit of a larger portion. One time we had enough with 5 tapas for 2. The other time we didn't, the portions where smaller.. maybe that's the way to cope with inflation. Do take note, we had a fun time and sat at ease and comfortable. Also take note.. you need a phone to scan the menu and make your order via your phone and pay... after which you will be served. The cafe is situated in a very picturesque and quiet place, close to the water, but far away from any "civilization". Terrace is cozy, interior is simple and nice. Staff is friendly and helpful. Dishes are tasty. Service is not excellent - 1st round dishes can be served together with 2nd round dishes. We also ordered 3 drinks, 1 drink (from the menu) was not available, so while I went and asked what another drink to order (1 minute) they didn't do 2 other drinks, they started doing the order of other people, and I needed to wait for their attention again... This place was one of my favorite discoveries in Ghent! Are you studying in Ghent? Or just passing by? I would recommend you to visit it during the summer to enjoy, otherwise it won't be a good experience to stay outside. Kantien is next to an small artificial lake and nearby to some UGent faculties, so it's idilic to visit in a warm afternoon bathing by the sunray.
