Sombrero — Restaurant in Hasselt

The place is easy to reach with lots of parking space. The ambiance not so cozy as mexican restaurants. You have to grill your own meat , you would think there should be atleast a tong or handgloves to help you do that but no. There are tongs in the buffet but you would rather do that in your table. Choices are ok but not impressive and not typical mexican items. Cold salads and desserts are european. They are not authentic mexican food. The exhaust is poorly working. They dont explain what they have and wont ask you if its your first time there. Not friendly staff nor have any other contact aside from payment which you have to do before you enter the restaurant. Self service in everything. No corn or tortilla. In my opinion, there' s a lot of flavours missing as a mexican restaurant here. Lots of improvement needs to be done. Simplicity is Beauty! That is the best description of this place. If you are looking for a fancy presentation then you should not come to this place. Everything is simply presented BUT the FOOD is extravagant you should try their Sangria, Mexicanse soup and Chili Con Carne they are near to perfection! Eten: Brede keuze aan vlees en groenten, maar echt Mexicaans kan ik het niet noemen. Wel voor iedereen wat wils. Het voorgerecht kan je zelf samenstellen. Je kan kiezen uit verschillende soorten vlees en groenten. (Wel maar twee verschillende soorten soep, die wat flauw was.) Een groot aanbod aan desserts, waaronder verschillende ijssoorten.

Service: Er is weinig communicatie met het personeel, aangezien alles zelfbediening is. Wanneer je hen iets vraagt, wordt het wel vriendelijk gedaan.

Sfeer: Het is een groot restaurant, waar voortdurend mensen rond lopen om eten te halen. Het is een erg open ruimte en van decoratie is er weinig te zeggen. De muziek komt niet boven het geluid van de gasten en de grill.

Barbecue: De spiezen horen bij het hoofdgerecht, het duurt echter wel een dikke 20 minuten voor de barbecue echt begint te worden en vlees begint te bakken. Ik raadt ook aan dat je de het vlees in het midden bakt, want aan de uiteinden duurt het nog 2× zo lang.

Tot slot: lekker eten en uitgebreide keuze, maar qua smaak is het echt niet zo speciaal. Best is ook om dit niet in de zomer te doen, want als je niet zweet van de chili, zal het wel van de hete...
