I've always loved Indian cuisine and its multilayered flavours. Heck! Who doesn't like Indian food? My 7 year old daughter would eat Korma chicken everyday :D I was out on Saturday night with my girlfriends and looking for an Indian restaurant where Indians would eat themselves so my friends and I could get an authentic experience.
I saw a few fancier looking restaurants in the city center but this one had the highest Google review rating and I was so glad when I called them and they had a table for us.
It doesn't have golden elephant statues or expensively embroidered table clothes to impress you, but it as the feeling I was looking for: people who greet you with simplicity and without flourish because the food and not the decoration should do all the talk! I have already dined in nice looking supposedly Indian restaurants where any sauce tasted like it was made from the same base I could buy at the shop myself.
So I asked them immediately if they were making their own paneer, lassi and yes they do! They also took the time to answer my questions about their ingredients, sharing info on where to procure them, visibly happy that I showed curiosity.
I shared a 2 person veggie menu with one of my friend so she could discover their tasty pakoras, light as air and crispy papadam and fluffy naan bread. My other friend got a tandoori and her chicken was so tender I was impressed! Again I have sadly experienced in other places overcooked grilled meats which you need to cover in sauce to make them palatable. Whereas here the chicken was so juicy that it didn't even need the delicious sauce that was served as a side. I bet their lamb is as fresh. I'll have to taste it some other time :)
To me, Indian food is not about fine dining, I want it to feel homemade, like I were dining in someone's home in India. This is exactly what I felt at the Indian Royal Food. The place certainly doesn't look royal, but don't be fooled by appearances because it DOES taste royal, even on the next day when you're having the left overs at lunch....
Read more(update: placed another order and while I was called out for leaving this review, they explained themselves calmly which at times is not usually the case, hopefully I will get my food well in time today and that they take my criticism constructively) I have to this place twice and ordered online for delivery three times. Everytime the delivery has been atleast 40 mins late. While eating at the restaurant itself, there is no one around to make further requests after placing the order. While the food tastes good but the business severely lacks in service. When I order a dish at the restaurant it was served with condiments as is the norm when ordering certain Indian dishes/snacks but when ordering the same dish for delivery, it didn't not come with any condiments. The food delivered is cold.
Once again, the food is good but the service is so poor that I certainly won't be placing an order for delivery anymore. I gave the place three chances because I like their food but I have been constantly...
Read moreVery nice Indian restaurant.
I went to this restaurant months ago but I didn't have time to write a detailed review. Now I feel the need to write more about this restaurant.
I have an Indian friend who told me that this restaurant actually has Indian owners, so that's already a good sign. Plus, every time I pass by, it's difficult to ignore the spicy aroma from within. That's another good sign.
The chicken tandoori is very impressive. Nice seasoning, great layers of flavors. I bought my tandoori masala right after that.
The lamb curry is a must try. It's spicy, It's on point, the lamb is tender, the curry sauce goes well with rice. It's very nice.
The scampi dish is also quite ok but less to my taste because personally, I'm not a fan of sweet dishes.
The naan breads are very nice if not a little bit pricy. But I would definitely recommend...
