le roi des grillades — Restaurant in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode - Sint-Joost-ten-Node

Hidden gem as a Levantine cuisine just outside central Brussels area. Really worthwhile to travel here to experience this food. Tasty, good portion size, and value for money. Their complementary bread is among the best I've tasted for this type of cuisine - has a tomato and herb base sandwiched between. Also the kebab is tender which I've never found in many Levantine restaurants but found to be of the more tasty kebabs I tried too. Rest of the meat/rice/salad is also well prepared as expected.

A couple of notes for people:

1. Menu is strictly French/Arabic - perhaps I came at a relatively non busy time but you're going to really struggle conversing with servers of the restaurant if you don't have working knowledge in these languages. English will not get you far as I tried to initially. My working conversational Arabic got me by at least, which was a nice experience…
2. If in doubt just go with the picture set on the menu and try number 8) - which I believe is the one that's highlighted in the attached image which is enough for a late lunch.

Overall a worthwhile visit if you're around...

We were six people and we ordered 2kg grill. Everything was nice, as soon as we came in, we were greeted by a friendly face, the whole staff was very kind, it felt like we were at a friend’s house. Everything felt clean and the bathroom was clean. The food was freshly grilled so we waited about 20 minutes which is normal for the amount of food we ordered, also the wait was not unpleasant because the atmosphere was nice, there was an airco so we felt comfortable even though the weather is hot outside, a big screen showing beautiful cities and travel destinations and nice music. My nephew and niece are very picky eaters and they enjoyed the experience, the presentation and the taste. I was already full way before the food was finished but it was too good to leave behind. The meat and chicken were very tender and juicy and the marination and spices were all balanced, Arayes were very flavorful and the sauces were tasty. This is definitely the best restaurant I have been to in Brussels. I came here because I read the reviews and it didn’t disappoint....

We visited this restaurant because we wanted to try Middle Eastern food, and this place had a high review score.

Downside was the waiting time, we had to wait 50 minutes after ordeing, even though only 6 or 7 people were ahead of us. Long waiting time was a clear negative point. Perhaps it would help if they served the meze first before the main dish. Anyway, the food and the meze were good and we were satisfy with the quality.

The location is a bit off the typical city center path, it seems like the owner mainly targets local customers, friends & families. The place was clean, and the staff member who could speak with us was friendly.

Overall, the food was good, but the long wait made the experience less enjoyable, although, while we were leaving, the person who served our food apologized for the delay due to several orders, so...
