Tearoom 't Centrum — Restaurant in Veurne

We visited here Sunday 3rd October 2021, on the third day of our trip back to the UK. This café is located on the attractive main square and is sandwiched between a couple of other cafés. The weather was just about good enough to sit outside and there were a number of tables here, but the slight chill in the air meant that It was actually quite busy inside.

Inside it had a slightly old school Belgian Café vibe, with the 2-3 staff (3 I think?) working tirelessly serving a mostly older clientele. The layout is of a long rectangular shape, their isn't really a bar as such with spirits and beer taps etc, it's table service and there is just a small area at the back where staff pass on food and drink to a colleague.

The beer choice was pretty decent, we wwre able to easily select a couple of beers we'd never had before which is pretty impressive. Service was quick and, staff attentive but as mentioned busy. The eyes of the café seemed glued to the TV screen and the Paris-Roubaix cycle race which I must say that even for someone like me who is non-plussed about the sport it was absolutely captivating. The conditions of the race were or at least had been very wet leading to very wet, muddy riders and lots of thrills and spills. Quand on va passer une journée sur la côte d'opale en famille le programme est quasi immuable : d'abord un bonjour à la mer depuis la digue de Bray-Dunes suivi d'un repas à la brasserie du Manège. (Ah, les bonnes frites !). Puis pour faciliter la digestion, une bonne balade sur la plage vers Zuydcoote ou vers La Panne selon le sens du vent dominant. Puis, pour terminer agréablement la journée, on fait un "crochet" par Furnes en Belgique (Veurne en flamand). Et sur la magnifique place on va boire une boisson chaude accompagnée d'une gaufre au sucre ou à la pâte de chocolat-noisettes dans l'un des trois cafés situés côte à côte. We gingen speciaal naar een tearoom om 's middags een pannenkoek te eten. "Om te eten" werd ons gevraagd en dus "ja" maar toen we bestelden kregen we het verwijt "het zijn maar pannenkoeken"... Ik bestelde croque bolognaise en kreeg een lasagne die ik weigerde en dat werd erg afgekeurd. De ober zei "ik had me vergist en lasagne wou je niet zeker" op een erg verwijtende toon... De pannenkoeken waren gewoon uit een pakje en niet vers en we betaalde wel bijna €3 per pannenkoek... Erg onvriendelijk. mijn gezin was klaar met eten toen mijn "vergissing" eindelijk werd rechtgezet en dan kwamen ze nog afruimen terwijl ik nog aan het eten was... Verschrikkelijk! Hier komen...
