Not a good experience for a special anniversary meal
This was supposed to be a special meal celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary. We had asked the concierge at our hotel for a recommendation for a quaint, romantic restaurant, and she suggested Tom Moore’s Tavern. She called the restaurant for us to arrange a reservation for 6:30 PM. We arrived at 6:20 PM. It was raining and the restaurant appeared to be closed – no lights were on and no cars in the parking lot. We tried the door which was locked. Someone came to the door and said the restaurant did not open until 6:30 and we had to wait outside (in the rain!) to be seated. We were the only patrons at that point. Weird. Why tell our concierge they had a table at 6:30 PM and not have the doors open prior to that? Eventually, more people arrived. We were seated and ordered two glasses of wine. The owner, apparently, is responsible for taking dinner orders. He told us what the specials were for the evening, and then returned to take our dinner order. When we told him that we wanted to share a Caesar salad (as we always do) he scowled. as more people arrived, we overheard others also asking to share the Caesar salad. His reaction towards them was not the same as ours! A decisive difference in his attitude! Perhaps because we were two women? I ordered the ribeye ($78) medium, and my wife ordered the rack of lamb special. My ribeye was undercooked and had more fat than meat. Shortly after our meal arrived, the owner returned and asked what we wanted for dessert? There were only two choices, and we decided on the chocolate soufflé. Again, he was annoyed that we chose only one dessert (which, by the way, we didn’t finish) No one asked us if we wanted coffee, and no one even came to the table to ask! Our meal came to $278.45, which we didn’t mind paying, however, we would have appreciated being treated with the same respect as the other patrons. Our money is just as good as theirs! Sorry, but I would not recommend this stuffy establishment with its...

We had the distinct impression that the maitre d' was offended at our request to share scallops to start ($36 for 2 scallops btw). Didn't matter - we still ordered over $100 each of other food and drink. The tone was set.
The wait staff (apart from the maitre d') were all very polite but were so overboard with their attention it felt like they may as well have sat down with us. Each sip of wine resulted in a top-up and being asked a question every 30 seconds.
The food was expensive and average. Our 2 scallops were nicely presented but bland. My wife's spaghetti carbonara was dry, and the "crust" on my lamb was basically pure mustard powder. If you need your sinuses cleared, order that!
The highlight was one waiter popping over in the middle of our main course to give us details of the dessert 'special option'. Then, after us saying we would think about it after our mains, he came back with the dessert menus and gave them to us......while we both still had half a plate of food each.
Speaking of the menus - I like getting them in the form of an 8 year olds forgotten homework that has been stuffed into the bottom of a bag for a week. It's always nice reading a 'fine dining' menu from a crumbled piece of paper.
To finish off the maitre d' brought our bill over and just typed in the amount on the card machine. He handed that to me before actually letting me see the bill!
To summarise: Setting = lovely Food = good looking but doesn't live up to it. Drink = extortionate wine pricing Service = rude...
Read moreIt was our first time to Bermuda. We noticed that TM Tavern was the highest rated restaurant on the island. It was a long taxi service from The Reefs but it was beyond worth it. We planned our day around the dinner reservations and visited St Georges. Due to rain and shop closures, we arrived at TMT over an hour early. Ian showed us to the patio and offered drinks while we waited. Even if you do not arrive early, go to the patio area and visit with Pumpkin and Smokey... the 2 establishment cats that are sweet and adore the attention. The restaurant is an old home that you arrive to by a beaten path road. It sits by a water feature and has special written all over it as soon as you pull up to the door. The staff is excellent. We had so much attention. At least 4 different waiters visited us for drink orders, food and table service. Bruno, the owner of TMT, was around and stopped by several times and even helped with the dessert orders. A prince of a host. The Chicken Soup was the Appetizer highlight. I would imagine that you cannot go wrong with any of the dish selections. But the Lasagna and the Ribeye were big hits at our table for the main course. For the Ribeye, be sure to order the Woody Bearnaise sauce. If the waiter tells you that it is not available, ask for Bruno. He will make it happen. Oh, full disclosure, It is a $5 upcharge but come on...you are in Bermuda. We met the chef afterwards and offered our thanks for such a great job on the meals. This place is a MUST GO while on your visit to the island. I wish I could give it a 100 Star...
