I had lunch at Mescla with my daughter and a couple of friends while on holidays in Brazil, and we all loved it. We started with chicken heart & calamari skewers, with the chef's version of satay sauce, and they were amazing. As in, can we have another portion, please? We also had some delicious potato croquettes, filled with mushrooms and leek which were much lighter than I thought they could possibly be. For mains, we shared a few dishes that sounded great on the menu, and they didn't disappoint: my favourites were prawn, calamari & mushroom rice (like a risotto but not really), with some kind of creamy sauce that I didn't identify but which was surely delicious; and a wonderful baked pirarucu fish with black beans and greens. Our waiter told us this fish was once almost extinct, but it is now part of a sustainable fishing program. There were a couple of dessert options, but when we saw chocolate mousse with little cubes of mango and passionfruit sauce, we all just ordered the same thing. It was as good as it sounds. O Mescla é uma ótima opção de almoço na região da Barra Funda. Bairro, aliás, que gosto bastante de ir de vez em quando aos fins de semana para explorar o que anda tendo de legal nas galerias pequenas e fora da rota que ali ficam.
Em um espaço com mesas na calçada e outras do lado de dentro, o ambiente é aconchegante e todo meio compartilhado, sendo os clientes servidos de boa comida e atendidos por uma brigada competente e profissional.
Por lá, em minha ida comecei pelas boas ostras frescas (R$19,00) com presunto cru, que trouxe um toque salgado mais terroso e profundo, contrastando com o sopro de mar do prato.
Em seguida, o porquinho empanado (R$36,00) não é o suíno, mas um peixe mais gorduroso, de sabor forte e aqui sustentou o bom molho tártaro, gergelim e batata crocante que o acompanham.
Ao seu lado, o coração de lula (R$29,00) se dá com antichuchos de coração de galinha e lula com molho de amendoim.
Antichucho é um prato de origem peruana, dos mais populares e típicos, feito com pedaços de coração bovino marinados em tempero especial à base de ají panca (pimenta vermelha) e espetados em um palito. Aqui, carnes macias e saborosas com ótimo molho.
Dos pratos, a costela de porco na lata (R$57,00) veio desmanchando, mas sem perder sua textura, e era servida com salsa de coentros, queijo feijão fradinho, banana da terra, tomatinhos e batatas.
De doce, o creme queimado (R$18,00) se dá com um curau brulee com chips de coco queimado e bolacha de milho. Uma lembrança afetiva para esse goiano que os escreve.
