I was disappointed with the food here, mainly because it has received so many positive reviews, which I can’t understand. On the positive side, the restaurant is large and there are plenty of wait staff. The restaurant is lively, with a lot of movement and the décor is nice. Also on Wednesday night they have an “all you can eat” menu. On the other side, they have a “specials” menu that every single piece of sushi is made with Philadelphia Cream cheese (although I can’t totally blame Hokkai, since most Brazilian sushi restaurants use Philly in their sushi rolls, but Hokkai goes even further in that wrong direction). The cooked dishes were at best tasteless; most were very bad & I ended up sending them back unfinished. The sushi was like eating a photo of sushi, completely lacking any flavor. Read moreI was somewhat sceptical about Japanese in tourist hot spot. However, I was pleasantly surprised. My father and I ordered the Hitori mixed sushi platter (18pc) and Tonkatsu teishoku to share. The pork tonkatsu set came with agedashi tofu, miso soup, rice and pickled cucumbers.
The service was present without being intrusive, and the staff cleared rubbish, wrappers and any empty glasses whenever they passed by.
Although expensive compared to local fare, this is still more affordable than Japanese you would pay for in any major city and well worth the price paid (it came to 300 Real with 4 vodkas for dinner).
I took 1 star off for ambience because they have iPads on the wall that are dessert ads which I found a...
Read moreThis was so delicious! One of the best examples of Japanese cuisine I’ve ever tried – and I’ve tried it in many places. Juicy, tender, incredibly fresh. The sashimi in oyster sauce… your eyes just close automatically when you taste it. Baked rolls are usually a bit tough, but here they melted in the mouth, so soft and delicate. And the miso – definitely not from a packet! The green tea was slightly over-brewed, but still good.
Special thanks to our waiter, Gilermo – he was so polite, spoke excellent English, offered us Wi-Fi right away, gave me great recommendations for the order, and even brought plain rice for my child.
The place also has an English menu and a children’s playroom.
❤️ 12/10 – absolutely...
