Mia Birria foodie eats — Restaurant in Abbotsford

I've driven by, previously, and recently read some reviews on this spot. It's close to work and I felt like something different for lunch.

It's nice to see this kiosk-type spot being used in a food truck like manner.

I ordered the chicken birria tacos. The order comes with two tacos, a handful of tortilla chips, a lime wedge, hot sauce, fresh pico, and a consommé dip. $13 after tax.

I've seen some other reviews saying it wasn't worth the money, but I'll tell you I've had some pretty small portions for that cash from food trucks and I would say this portion size was great for lunch. I'd happily pay that for this quality of food. I can go get decent tacos elsewhere for the same price, but would much rather eat here. Even fast food joints these days cost more than this. And I was quite happy with the chips and pico as a side. Tacos are rich and saucy, pico was a nice fresh pop.

The guys working the kiosk seemed quite nice, set reasonable wait time expectations, and seemed genuinely interested as to whether or not I'd tried them before.

On a sunny day, it would be nice to eat at the picnic tables available, even if George Ferguson Way is a busy street. I picked mine up and took it to go.

Ok, so I saw a video on Mia Birria from CuriocityVancouver and decided I had to try it! Both my wife and I are BIG Mexican food fans and make it at home 2-3 times a week so we were excited for a new Mexican place 10 minutes from us. Unfortunately, that excitement was short lived.

Highlights: Starting off with the things we enjoyed. Their pico de gallo was fresh, crisp, seasoned well (4/5). We were also a big fan of their hot sause (small container in the picture). Decent amount of spice, with great flavour to it.

Low lights: Seasoning… everything just lacked seasoning. I had the Birria Burrito with beef, and it was ok. Nothing jumped out, all mild flavours which is not what I think of when I think of Mexican food. I ended up running out of hot sauce to put on the burrito because a bite without it didn’t taste like anything. I also got their chicken tacos and it was the exact same thing, just a serious lack of seasoning. Because of this, it was really nothing to ride home about.

Verdict: Glad I tried it, but won’t...

Great food, use to come here weekly but they have no morals...they purposely and knowingly charged me twice for a meal. I paid online and forgot that I had already paid so upon arrival I was ready to pay, the workers were acting a bit odd, one looked confused like I already paid so she was whispering to the manager if she should charge me a 2nd time and of course they did. Didn't realize til I left but now I know why they were acting so shady before taking the 2nd payment...because they knowingly accepted the 2nd payment. I can't support a greedy company so will never be back.
