My family and I attended Sushiwa a couple weeks ago for the first time. We had ordered several items, and unfortunately two of the items ordered were missed. Once this mistake was eventually realized, the missed items were served, but unfortunately in the rush to fix the mistake, the gyoza order was undercooked. This was disappointing for us, and we left with what we thought was a bad experience with Sushiwa. After sharing this online, I was contacted by a representative of Sushiwa, concerned about our experience.
We were asked to come back for lunch, on his bill. My wife and I took this offer, and returned back to Sushiwa. The chef did not even give us a menu, just asked if we had any allergies or foods we didn't like; after that, the food started coming to our table. We received dishes we did not even know existed. The chef kept the dishes coming until we said we could no longer eat. After this, he came over and made sure we were satisfied with what we received. I explained how pleased we were, and he thanked us for coming back. I insisted on paying for the meal, but he said no. In conversation, he explained how he was leaving the industry, but really wanted to make up for what happened at our last experience...I realized that this meant there was no personal or professional gain for him doing this.
While my wife and I were getting ready to leave, I noticed the relationship the chef had with the other customers. Many of the patrons and the chef knew each other by name. There was handshaking, laughs and personal conversations going on. The restaurant was packed.
We all make mistakes, but how we manage them really speaks volumes of our character. Sushiwa made a minor mistake in our first visit, and went up and beyond to repair it...for no other reason than to satisfy us as customers. The food was exceptional, the service was great and the experience of seeing someone really care about the satisfaction of his customers was something not too often seen anymore.
This is my new favourite sushi restaurant, and one I will be returning back to over...
Read moreThis place has been very hyped to me. I've done takeout twice and dine in twice.
Chirashi Don test: price - high, variety - average, quantity - low/average.
I have to admit that my special roll(Red Dragon) was delicious on my last visit. The combination of flavours in the sauces and toppings was delectable. It was also quite expensive, which for a special roll of that caliber I am ok with. The issue I have is that the rest of the menu is just as expensive, (a negitoro roll is $1.50 - $2.00 more than anywhere else in town) which tends to prohibit the selection I like when having sushi.
The staff were friendly, the wait was a bit long, and we were not advised when they were out of Tai (it was just substituted with Ebi to which I have a mild allergy). All in all it doesn't live up...
Read moreWe really just went here to kill some time waiting to meet up with someone..... I had 2 bowls of miso soup because I'm on a cleanse and my daughter had sunomono.. which she totally loves.
In the past I've got a huge bowl of sunomono at other sushi restaurants for 4.95 or so.. I couldn't believe that this pitiful bowl of sunomono salad was 6.95. for that reason I wouldn't go back because it was totally overpriced. And it was just a hole in the wall restaurant too. But it was good though because this then motivated me to buy all the ingredients and just make this at home for her for 1/20th of the cost... So I guess I appreciate the motivation provided by this restaurant.
Although I did to see their other reviews and things...
