I am writing this post to express my deep dissatisfaction and concern regarding the experience my group and I had at this establishment on Thursday, March 28th at 8:00 PM. The purpose of this letter is to bring to your attention the unacceptable behavior we encountered, including a rude and racist atmosphere, as well as poor service.
As a person of color (POC) and I am deeply disappointed by the treatment we received during our visit to this establishment. The behavior we encountered made our blood boil and left us feeling disrespected and marginalized. It is disheartening to experience such discrimination in a place that should be inclusive and welcoming to all customers.
One of the most distressing incidents occurred when we arrived and witnessed an argument among the staff members regarding who should serve our table. This not only delayed our service but also created an uncomfortable and unwelcoming environment. We waited for approximately 30 minutes without being served, which is an unacceptably long time to wait in any restaurant. We waited, without being served anything, then left.
Furthermore, the overall atmosphere was tainted by racist behaviour and a general lack of respect towards customers. For example, we were not served water during our time there and a non-POC was served water when he arrived after us. Or another example, our table was served after we left the established when a white family sat down after us.
This behavior is not only offensive but also goes against the principles of equality and fairness.
I feel compelled to bring this matter to the publics attention as it is important for this establishment to be aware of the incidents that occurred. It is crucial the staff at Ricky's country's restaurant, especially the management to take immediate action to address these issues and prevent similar incidents from happening in the future. It is disheartening for a POC to keep experiencing incidents in this world, especially where we believe an environment, like this, should make everyone, regardless of who they are, feel included and welcomed.
If the manager reads this, I kindly request that you investigate this matter thoroughly and take appropriate disciplinary actions against the staff members involved in the argument and any other individuals responsible for creating a racist and hostile atmosphere. Additionally, I urge you to implement measures to ensure that all staff members are trained in diversity, equality, and customer service to prevent such incidents from occurring again.
I believe that every customer deserves to be treated with respect and fairness, regardless of their background. I hope that by bringing this complaint to your attention, you will take the necessary steps to rectify the situation and improve the overall...
Read moreZero Stars, Ricky's! Never going back! We started out waiting around 15 minutes at the front welcome desk, with no line up and being the only customers waiting, receiving only the occasional wave from a couple of servers to let us know they saw us but were evidently too busy to do anything about it. Then, finally one of the servers came along, a young guy, and to his credit apologized for the long wait, and took us to a table, dropped menus and immediately ran off. OK fine, he's busy, someone else will come by soon, we thought. Then we waited another 10 minutes and decided enough was enough, there's no service here, we're leaving. Right? Who wouldn't? However, ignoring us for around 25 minutes wasn't enough for one of the staff, they had to attempt to humiliate us on the way out by making a scene. A server, an older woman,, who by the way just started greeting another table that had just walked in long after my wife and I did, saw us standing up to leave (apparently that's how you get attention here) and quickly came over and she said they were very busy in the back with a large order and also running into computer problems but she would help us now. We said that was fine, maybe it's not personally your fault, but we were still leaving. The waitress then hustled over to a service station and grabbed water glasses for us and said from there, very loudly and dramatically for everyone around to hear, that the order they were busy with was for flood victims and we would be supporting the flood victims too by providing our patience. For a second I stopped and thought ... well I want to support flood victims, maybe we should stay, and then I realized - that was UTTER NONSENSE!! If we leave, we don't care about flood victims and we're also going to publicly shame you. You should be ashamed of yourself! If someone had told us when we arrived that you were unable to help new customers for 20-25 minutes because of that reason, we could have made the choice on our own to wait or not. But tell us on the way out after 25 minutes of ignoring us that we're basically heartless if we don't tolerate your restaurant's non-existent service because you are allegedly (and sounds like incompetently with your computer problems excuse) putting together an order for flood victims, and to loudly proclaim this publicly in an effort to pressure us to stay? This deserves a gold medal in the Poor Customer Service Olympics. It takes a very special person to attempt to pull that connection off. Instead, we had a fantastic meal with fantastic service at the Greek Islands restaurant on S. Fraser Way, and encourage everyone to go there instead. And not tolerating your terrible customer service, Ricky's, doesn't mean we don't care about the...

I met my mom and sister here for lunch today. I decided to order the the eggs benedict with grilled tomatoes instead of hashbrowns. When the mean arrived the server said: "I think they might have overcooked the tomatoes and I might have to have them re-due them". I quickly checked and they were the consistency of mush, so I told her yes they would have to be redone. When I began to sample the eggs benedict I noticed it was cold; I thought, maybe it was just the outer part. As I took another bite I realized it was not just the outer edges, the meal was cold, and looking at the consistency of the sauce, it was obvious it had been sitting for a bit before being served. I moved the plate to the other side of the table, when the server came back with the newly grilled tomatoes, I informed her that the food was cold.
She took the food away, never appologized for it, never offered for me to order something else, nor did the manager stop by to acknowlege the mistake. I had ordered a tea which I was drinking until the bill arrived, and I was charged for the tea, no further comments by the server or offer to perhaps cover the price of the tea. It's not like I expect to get food and beverages for free but when a restaurant messes up an order, most places will try to rectify the mistake and do something to try to compensate for the error.
This experience has certainly left me with knowing I will never go back there again. I was very hungry after leaving. I could have asked the server to order another food item, but in my experience, the server has always offered to recify the situation and go out of their way to make up for a bad experience. On the way out the floor manager actually said have a good day!!.
For the price of food at this resaurant I could have easily gone to a chain restaurant like: Browns, Cactus Club for the same value but would have gotten great service and food quality as I have never had a bad experience at either of those...
