I recently visited the Ajax branch of D-Spot while traveling from the USA to see my friends, expecting a great experience. Unfortunately, the customer service was extremely disappointing. From the start, we encountered issues. No napkins or plates were provided until we asked for them. The mojitos were flat, lacking the expected sparkling water. When we brought this to our server, she unprofessionally poured the sparkling water directly into our glasses instead of replacing the drinks. We had to request the mojitos be taken off our bill, which should have been offered proactively. We ordered chicken nachos, which surprisingly had no chicken. When a friend mentioned that the nachos had received poor feedback before and asked for quality assurance, the server dismissively attributed the issue to "different taste buds" rather than assuring us of better service. Additionally, the server forgot to punch in our dessert order and returned after 10-15 minutes to reconfirm it. At that point, it was clear she was no longer interested in serving us. As we were preparing to leave, we took a bag from the table, and another employee stared at us as if we were stealing. When confronted, she claimed she was ensuring we had the correct bag, which felt ridiculous and uncalled for. The staff included a short Indian girl at the front and our server, who seemed to be of South Asian/Afghan heritage with long hair and an overly confident attitude. Their service significantly detracted from our visit, leading to an overall disappointing experience. We even called D-Spot to speak to the manager, but they never seemed to put them on the phone. We hope D-Spot addresses these issues to prevent similar experiences for...
Read morethe food was delicious, I had a samosa burger and a vanilla shake with a Skor bar. The reason I felt the need to leave 1 star was the service. I had arrived with a group of 8, so I understand that is a lot of work for the waitress. However, the service we received was sub-optimal.
When we sat down, everything was fine, our orders were taken, no difficulty or mistakes there. Afterward, we waited for everyone to get our food. At first, 2 people received their meals after a long wait, then 20 minutes later, another 3 were served, another 20 minutes before 2 more were served, then another 30 minutes before the last one of us was served. By the time the last person was served lunch, I could swear that the first person was ready for dinner. It was an eternity of waiting, and the people at the table beside us complained for their long wait as well, and they came in after us. They were served before us because they complained. It was not managed well, and for a weekend, there should have been better management. Especially for the price, as I paid 30 bucks for one burger and a milkshake. No combo.
With the sloppy management, nobody was going to leave a tip and be on our merry way. But they charged a "gratuity" fee, because they knew we weren't going to tip for the terrible service.
Another complaint I have is that in the menu, the samosa burger showed 2 samosas inside it in the picture, and the one I received only had one. I wish I could leave 0 stars, but the food was good enough that I am fine leaving one star
UPDATE: I reached out to their email, and they never sent me a response. It's...
Read moreI took my family there as a treat today. I was very disappointed at the lack of service and food. The overall experience left me very dismayed.
Serivce: Granted, the place was very busy. However, to have to ask for the order to be taken after waiting 15 minutes is unfair. Then bringing just water and no napkins or cutlery shows ignorance of service. Having to ask for these things is ridiculous. When the cutlery and straws (not in sleeves) was brought out, they were placed right on the table. There were 4 of us and only 3 servings were brought to us. We had to get up get the 4th.
Food: We ordered nachos with steak strips. The plate must've been sitting for a period of time before it was brought out. It was cold, cheeses had hardened and the steak strips where 4 big chunks of meat. When I brought that to the manager/owner's attention. She had the gall to say you should've asked for a knife. Who asks for a knife when eating a shared plate of nachos? Her lack of a thoughtful "customer service" oriented response and adversarial defensive behaviour was enough to put me over the edge on the whole experience.
Very disappointed! As I like to support local businesses. But, they must take pride and quality of service and food. It must be their hallmark!
I would not recommend this business be given the support when basic service and quality of food is...
