My first time at hibiscus and I was really looking forward to great a night out after hearing of a new local entertainment spot. The food good, my friend and I had pepper shrimp, wings, 2 rum punch, 2 shots of Appleton, 2 rum and coke totalling $120. Karaoke was happening. It was about 75% capacity, they had 2 servers on the dinning side. Nobody greeted us upon arrival for almost 10 minutes, finally we flagged down. Server and she got someone to clear the table but never came back to seat us at our table. We took the liberty of seating ourselves and asked the gentleman who bussed the table to let a server know we were sitting, we also asked him for a menu. It took another 20 mins to get the attention of one of the servers (the two servers walked by us multiple times but the music was so loud they didn’t even hear us shouting). We finally ordered and the drinks and food did come in decent timing, but we got. No condiments or anything with our order, it another 15 mins to get hot sauce. Overall our experience was dampened by the lack of service. I understand a busy night can be exhausting for servers but we wanted to order so many other things but the lack for service didn’t make that happen. I posted to my instagram story and someone asked me how the place was I said don’t bother if you are dinning in. As someone who is familiar with the some experience in the food industry I understand one experience doesn’t equate to all we may experience in a particular setting but the fact we had to literally beg for service is really disappointing. The karaoke was a really good vibe, hopefully they can iron out these issues as I know this is a new...
Read moreBought beef black pudding. It was awful. Doesn't even look nor taste like black pudding. Water down sauce. I had to dump it. Special chicken fried rice tasted ok but stale. The chicken on top was also stale and it was re fried to make it crisp. I'm expert at stale tasting. Please up your standard to keep customers. I'll probably try th e chowmein another day. Not anytime soon. This experience has to wear off.
Updated March 29th 2025 My husband and I decided to give this restaurant another try. We went in person and ordered take out of a Special Chicken Fried Rice. That's the fried rice with chicken pieces in the rice and 4 pieces of fried chicken on top. The waitress took our order and said it was a 20 mins wait. That was fine as we were looking at the Leafs game that was on. About 5 to 7 mins she brought out a bag and placed it by the bar then seconds after she brought it to us and said something to the effect that we got our order before a big order. Seemed strange. Got home and was eating then.....guess what?? A piece of my chicken had pepper on it. I was given a very small container with pepper in the bag. I did not use it. Tell me PLEASE PLEASE this was not a piece of recycled chicken someone didn't finish. I could NOT continue eating. HOW can pepper get on my chicken? Was some part of my rice someone's left over too? Am I that unlucky? I am not here to bad mouth this restaurant. But tell me why my chicken had pepper sauce on 1 piece. This was so disgusting. I now see why some people put ketchup and pepper all over their left overs when they eat out so it cannot be used again. Please check with your kitchen staff on this...
Read moreOn Sunday, July 21, 2025, I purchased a paratha roti with curry goat from Hibiscus Restaurant in Ajax. When I got home, the roti was rock hard and completely inedible. I was shocked to realize I had been sold stale food. I called the restaurant that same evening and spoke with a lady who offered me a credit to try another dish. She suggested I order items like fried rice, chow mein, wings, or fried fish — meals that the chef cooks to order. She also told me to avoid curries, rotis, and black pudding, since those are frozen meals that the chef only reheats. If I had known this beforehand, I would not have ordered from Hibiscus in the first place. On Monday, August 25, 2025, I called again to use the credit. However, the lady who answered said my name and number were not recorded and that they had no record of any credit or refund. She told me the manager would call me within a few days, but that has not happened. I even explained during my first call that I do not live in Ajax and don’t visit often. At the time, I was assured my credit would be written down and I would just need to provide my name and number. Instead, I’ve been put on hold for long periods, told that staff need to check with the manager, and then told the manager isn’t available. I keep being promised a callback that never comes. This experience has been frustrating and feels like a complete runaround. On top of that, selling frozen food that is simply reheated, while advertising it as fresh, is unacceptable. The roti I received was so hard it could have caused injury if...
