Jeez where do you even begin?

2 words. Overpriced and horrible. I had my older brother visiting me from Sweden and we always go to the best and amazing sushi places there. We come here with his family, my family, my in laws, approx 12 adults and each person is 40$ with HST.

The service is absolutely garbage. The first order I did came out one by one very slowly, no one was really getting any sushi because I had a big order since we were 12.

After the first order which still wasn't complete the next order I did came after 1hr 15min. Can you imagine that? The restaurant wasn't even full lol, maybe at 35% capacity.

After stopping the server multiple times and asking where the food is at, still no betterment. Total waste and garbage. We had people driving from Newmarket and Scarborough because my brother had visited, what a shame. Had to apologize to everyone who came because I picked this garbage location.

Please do not come here. They might promise training and coordination for their staff to do better but I read the other reviews just before writing this and it's been like recently and also going back 4-5months. If I was the restaurant owner I would act upon the very first bad review and actually do a big change so the restaurant NEVER gets a review like this but there will be no changes, only empty promises and a diplomatic answer just because it will look bad if they don't reply here.

On top of all this, everyone who reads this.. the server added 15% for their SERVICE. WHAT SERVICE? The very less food we got was brought up by the robot so what did they do? Haha horrendous 🤣 it makes me laugh seriously.

Never, ever here again. Garbage total garbage...

My recent visit to Makimono in Ajax left a genuinely positive impression, particularly regarding their commitment to cleanliness and customer care. From the moment I walked in, the restaurant exuded a sense of order and meticulous attention to detail. The dining area was spotless, tables were promptly cleared and cleaned, and even the sushi preparation area appeared organized and hygienic. This level of cleanliness contributed significantly to a comfortable and reassuring dining environment. Beyond the appealing aesthetics, the service I received was truly commendable.

The staff members were consistently attentive, friendly, and efficient. My server was quick to offer assistance, answer my questions about the menu, and ensure my dining experience was seamless. Empty plates were cleared promptly, and drink refills were offered without being intrusive. It was evident that the team prioritized creating a welcoming and well-cared-for atmosphere for their guests.

While the sushi itself was enjoyable, the standout aspects of my visit were undoubtedly the evident dedication to maintaining a clean and pleasant environment and the consistently high level of customer service. It's clear that Makimono understands the importance of these elements in creating a positive and memorable dining experience. For those who value a clean setting and attentive service alongside their meal, Makimono is certainly worth considering.

(Full disclosure, I did get "bribed" with bubble tea as the other review noted but I would have written a 5-star review...

$52 for AYCE sushi for 2 on a weeknight. Large selection, to be ordered from a tablet and then call over a server to release the order. Sushi is ordered per piece. Or you can order from menu. Prices for bento boxes and combos are in the $15-20 range. Lovely to the eye room design. Thumping, loud, EDM and not-original-artist music.

Disappointed with nigiri which had paper thin slices of tuna on a large wad of rice (see pic). The Rainbow Roll was overloaded with avocado (see pic) and the inside of the Roll (as well as the California Roll) was half filled with cucumber which dominated the flavour. The California Roll was in large pieces which seemed promising but was overly dominated by both the cucumber and rice. I would have left it on the plate after the first piece but the tablet warns that uneaten food will be charged back to the diner. Best was the Dynamite Roll with tempura shrimp.

The 5-piece tempura vegetables were good, if slightly overcooked (broccoli, zucchini were overly soft inside). The pepper beef was cooked well done but had intense delicious flavours of pepper and roasted garlic which would make this a winner if we'd specified medium-rare.

While we were greeted and brought to our table by a friendly man, the woman server was silent and difficult to track down on a quiet Tuesday evening. We were unhappy that they do not accept debit. She pointed to an ATM in the front and told us cash or credit only.

All in all, an OK place, but wouldn't recommend it to...
