Blacktail Bar — Restaurant in Alberta

is this a bar, or a daycare?

I write this with the understanding that kcountry is for everyone, and I spent a lot of time there as a kid myself, but frankly the dining experience at the blacktail was nothing short of weird and bad, dozens of children running around, screaming, playing, whatever, having fun doing kid stuff - nothing wrong with that in general but I don’t really want other people’s children coming up and grabbing my fries when i’m out for a drink either.

service was horribly slow trying to leave, seemed very understaffed with hostesses and servers trying to placate all the uppity moms trying to get free kids meals or tables for 12 without reservations, so I certainly empathize with them.

food was pretty standard, I would say worth the price and some good and interesting menu items.

If you are running this place I really don’t know what you do about this, it felt like a chuckee cheese not a nice mountain spa lounge, nothing against kids but it was just (way, way) too much.

honestly nothing against the staff or venue, just the clientele, but none the less it was not worth going to, especially when you’re stuck for 30-45 minutes trying to leave in a swarm of random children running...

We have been coming for over a year now to the hotel and having lunch at the Blacktail bar. We stop by at least once a week after a hike. It up until now has been fantastic. The food has been always so good and well worth the price. However the last two time the food has not been great. One time we had the turkey club and it tasted like it was days old and the fries were soggy. We decided to give it another go just yesterday we had the burger with bacon and a chicken caesar with a side of fries. Our order took a long time to finally get to us and then when it did the bacon on the burger was not even cooked. We showed the server and she took it back and two seconds later came back with some old precooked bacon. And let me say the fries we the worst fries I have ever had. They were so soggy it was unreal. My caesar salad however was great.

The food has gone down hill and the prices have gone up.

This was my husband's and my first visit to the hotel and the restaurant and it has been a wonderful experience! When we were first seated the table was a bit wobbly so they moved us to a much nicer table by a window. The food and drinks were delicious and the portions were huge! My husband says the bison burger is the best he's ever had and my steak was perfectly cooked! Our server really made the whole experience so much better. Gilbert is a gem! He was so sweet and quick to bring out our order. When we said it was our first time here he told us all about the spa, as well as the huge fire they hold every night where we could sit and make s'mores. He also pointed out an amazing path that took us to the prettiest view of the mountains and the river! We will definitely be coming back for our next holiday and I hope we get the pleasure of having Gilbert...
