The Lodge: In November of 2023, we made a reservation for July 2024, at Truffle Pigs Lodge for the night before starting a backpacking trip in Yoho National Park. We like to get an early start on the trail, and staying in Field makes this possible. Unfortunately, there was a problem with our reservation, (Truffle Pigs was not at fault), however after a couple of very helpful/friendly emails and phone calls, they arranged a room for us at one of the local guest houses in Field at the same rate as the Truffle Pig – this effort went above and beyond normal service and was appreciated.
The Bistro: We arrived at 5PM, the Bistro was busy (a good sign), the friendly hostess had us seated after a 10-minute wait. Our waiter (I cannot recall his name) did an excellent job. I asked him a few questions about the trail we would be travelling on the next morning. He had recently hiked the trail and gave us some useful information that was appreciated. All service staff at the Bistro were great. I ordered a local wheat beer (from just west in Golden), I enjoyed it. My wife and I had big rig burgers, and my son ordered Korean ribs, the mains were excellent. The fries are cut in house and the burgers were tasty. My son enjoyed the ribs. Since we enjoyed our meals, we ordered deserts (which we skip 95% of the time), the peanut butter cheesecake was excellent, my son had the homemade pie, also excellent. The prices for all courses are reasonable and align with the location and excellent quality of the food.
Summary: We do several short trips every summer at various Rocky Mountain Parks, so I feel that we can make an informed review / comparison that others may find useful. Local accommodations / dining can be hit and miss, we are pretty laid back about this. Our trips are in support of backcountry camping trips, our focus and the ‘star of the show’ is the backcountry….mountains, waterfalls, rivers, glaciers etc.…
In this case, local accommodations / dining are definitely a hit. The Truffle Pigs Lodge staff took care of our reservation problem – it is clear that they care about their guests. The Truffle Pigs Bistro is top notch, it was as good, or better than any dining experience we have had in recent memory. Our experience was very positive, keep doing what you are doing. We are coming back in August and are looking forward to it - I will add a room...
Read moreWith over two decades working in food and beverage—ranging from casual settings to luxury resorts and fine-dining standalones--I’ve come to treasure those rare gems that turn dining into an experience, where the hospitality lingers long after you leave. Truffle Pigs Bistro did exactly that.
It was Michelin that coined the phrase “destination restaurant,” and I can’t think of a more fitting title for this quirky, inspired bistro tucked in the heart of a tiny BC town. The menu is brilliantly composed--unpretentious yet refined, each dish thoughtfully built from simple ingredients and executed with a masterful sense of balance and texture. We dined there on our first night… and returned the next day. Five dishes in total. All of them flawless.
The decor is delightfully offbeat--playful, unexpected, and full of visual surprises that reflect the soul of the place. And the service? Outstanding. Alicia and Mike took such genuine care of us, and meeting Jennifer, the owner, was a highlight all its own. Her passion radiates in every detail--this isn’t just a business, it’s a labour of love. She’s created not only a must-visit destination, but the beating heart of a small community and a workplace her team is fiercely loyal to.
My advice? Come outside of the summer months (July and August), when the crowds are fewer and your chances of snagging a table are better. Supporting a local business like this in the off-season is one of the most meaningful ways to travel--and I promise, this is a table well worth sitting at.
Book a room at Truffle Pigs Lodge while you're at it--it has every comfort you'll need to sink into this charming village with dazzling views, wildlife and a historic railway. Thank you for a wonderful stay and we look forward to seeing...

I came to this lodge and restaurant based off the rave-reviews of a close friend. My kid and I booked a suite with kitchenette. This was last Feb 2023. The room was caked in dust. I wish I had pictures as it was unbelievable. I don’t know how Health and Safety would allow a room in that state to be rented. I asked cleaners to come back in as the level of filth was unreal. For example, the red fire hydrant was grey from dust and so was the carpet beside the fridge. The light bulbs, lamps, headboard, walls, fridge, carpet, room fan, and windowsills were all filthy. The room had clearly not been properly cleaned in weeks if not months. I spent around 30 minutes cleaning the room myself then another 30 with the help of a maid. This all happened within the first hour or two of checking in.
We decided to give the room a shot as it appeared okay after the clean and no other rooms were available. Unfortunately, the amount of unseen dust was so bad in the curtains and linens, my kid’s asthma kicked into high gear and we had to leave the next day. I’m also pretty sure there was a mouse running around as I hear something little moving in the kitchen in the middle of the night, but I didn’t dare look. Although they gave me my money back for the second night, they charged me full price for the first night despite the condition of the room.
I generally take low reviews with a grain of salt, but all the poor reviews are spot on to my experience which confirms that these dirty conditions are not a one-off experience. The only reason they get 2 stars is because they gave me a one night refund, otherwise it’s a one...
