We made a reservation here in spite of reading some of the negative reviews but afterwards my wife I both agreed that we've had better service at almost every other restaurant we've been to and we both wish that we'd eaten at a roadside taco stand instead.
We had their Thanksgiving menu which was a three course meal. The appetizer was soup, the main was game hen with risotto and dessert was a cake.
They offered us the option of sharing a wine pairing but then they couldn't be bothered to serve it in two glasses.
Sharing the pairing turned out to be a good decision after recieving our cocktails because they were huge (normally not a complaint but this was exceptional) so my wife enjoyed the wine while I tried to finish the cocktails so they wouldn't go to waste since the food was served before we had finished our first drinks.
This might just have been the most disappointing dining experience I've ever had. I'm trying not to be unnecessarily critical but in this category of dining certain expectations accompany the experience. I understand that staffing is an issue these days but there is no excuse for the multiple failures in this instance. It's my hope that management will see this and hopefully accept some constructive criticism to make significant improvements.
The service was terrible. With each course our food was delivered to the table and then we were abandoned, not once did the server or anyone else ask if we were enjoying it. No attempt was made to explain what was being served regarding the wine pairings or the food. After our dessert came out I patiently waited and waited and waited before I finally had to flag down a server (incidentally not ours because he was nowhere to be found) to ask for an espresso with my dessert. We don't typically order dessert so it was especially disappointing that the cake served had a very odd grainy texture.
We ordered cocktails before dinner and were promptly served 16oz (pint) glasses but then we weren't allowed any time to enjoy our drinks and relax because the food started arriving almost immediately.
The soup was probably the highlight of the meal but it was bland and uninspired, I've had soup from a carton at the grocery store that tasted better. The game hen was cooked nicely but was completely unseasoned, it was just roasted chicken and the risotto was watery. The brussel sprouts on the side were ok but the apple pie filling that accompanied the plate was cold, too sweet and didn't mesh with the other items.
The wine pairings weren't synchronized with the meal, in each case the wine came out significantly later than the food. At several points it actually felt like they had forgotten our wine pairings.
Dinner for my wife and I was over $200 and I've never been closer to leaving a 0% tip. I wish I could wind back the clock to not waste that money and to have eaten anywhere else.
And just to reiterate, not once did anyone check on us throughout our meal and the bus person that brought our food out couldn't answer even basic questions about the food.
Again, I understand that staffing is an issue these days and we try to have low expectations in that regard but we've had significantly better service at chain restaurants like Red Robin.
And I didn't even mention the fact that the winery was receiving a delivery at 7:00pm on a Sunday evening and we had to listen to a forklift backing up throughout the entire meal. Beep beep beep.
The venue was nice and the view was good but the chances of us ever going here again are slim to none.
I would suggest that you save your hard earned money and go...
Read moreThis will be a critical review but a very honest review. The restaurant is beautiful and the menu is pretty good for higher end dining. We came in with a group of 6 of us and we all really enjoyed the food, from pizza to octopus to the pasta, the food was not disappointing for Osoyoos, it was very tasty. Cocktails were also well made.
We were greeted very nicely when we arrived. The hostess was very pleasant. The service in regards to our server is where I knocked off a star. For a “higher end” restaurant that obviously is out there to be providing guests a great experience based on the work put into the restaurant and menu, the service for us was disappointing. Our server was nice I guess, however lacked in personality. We had to ask 3 times for our water to be refilled. Watched her glance over at our table on the way to the next a few times, wondering how she was missing the fact that all our water glasses and bottle of water was empty. Our cocktails took a long time after being ordered. Our empty cocktail glasses remained on the table until almost the end of our dining. Our first round of drinks took 10-15 min to get. When we finished our meals, we waited 15 min for the other half of our finished dishes to be taken away and another 10 min or so to get the desert menu. We couldn’t help but notice the server was talking to someone who appeared to be perhaps a floor manager. The server was having an intense conversation with this individual holding the dessert menus, we waited and waited. The desert was okay, tasted good, but on the over priced side to say the least. We’ve been to some very high end restaurants around BC and outside of BC and $12 for a small dessert was much higher than some of the other fine dining places we’ve been too.
Our experience could have been rated higher if it wasn’t for the poor service. As a former server, we expected much better service. Servers are not there to simply take a guests order and be missing most of the time, they are there to provide guests an experience and this was very lacking.
We would most definitely come back, the food was good and the views are very nice! However we hope that some tips and training might be focused on in regards to service just in hopes that we could add an extra star to our experience...
Read moreWe went to have dinner with our friends( 10 of us altogether). We were seated in the middle of the restaurant at long table. It started out as a nice evening; talking to one another while looking through the menu. The server Louise, I was told, took our order one by one. Half way through, she pipes up loudly that she did not want to repeat herself again. She rudely asked us all to look up and listen because she didn’t want to be asked, “ what is the soup of the day? again.” She rudely threw down cutlery and napkins. She served us sparkling water at first then she mixed regular water into our glasses, without even caring. Half the people said their food was fine... the other half said it was under seasoned, and under-whelming. I ordered the steak and whatever it came with... and a side of sautéed broccoli...as my dish came, she places the plate vertically which I had to re-adjust the plate myself. We were persistently just trying to be kind to her in case, she was having a bad day due to family issues or what not. I kindly asked her if my order of broccoli is coming as I didn’t see any on my plate. Just as I was asking, she SNAPS at me loudly and points to the expediting window saying,” YOUR BROCCOLI IS OVER THERE! I HAVE TO GO GET IT FOR YOU!” When she served it, it was CHARRED, DRY, inedible( and I had to pay for it) The guests on my end of the table were soooo uncomfortable and taken aback by this server’s behaviour in that kind of establishment. Very UNCLASSY. We are good tippers and tipped MECHANICALLY BUT Louise DID NOT DESERVE ANY KIND OF TIP for she made our night very disappointing and unenjoyable. I hope that whatever she is going through, that she is better now. She is not a good server for ANY KIND OF establishment. Please monitor her behaviour as it will be detrimental to your restaurant’s reputation. I will not go back as the food is medicore, and the server is substantially sub-par.The servers should be an extension of the establishment’s greatness...and LOUISE IS NOT....
