Overall: The service was decent, drinks were meh, and the food was blah. I'm not one to leave negative reviews, but the food was bad and the prices were high.
Positive: It hasn't always been bad though. We ate here back in February and had some amazing chicken wings and a stellar Caesar drink... they were so good that we talked about them and craved them for months after our visit.
Negatives: When we found out that this was basically the only place to eat in town (Antler's was closed), we weren't too concerned since we had a great meal the last time we stayed. Unfortunately, this was not the case. We ate here about 5 times over the course of our stay and each meal was more disappointing. Here are all of the things we ordered over our 3 day stay:
Honey garlic wings - Not as good as the last time we had them, but they were still alright. They were super breaded this time, came out cold and had patches without sauce coverage. Disappointed :( Steak sandwich - My partner said it was the worst he has ever had. Burnt and stale bun, steak was alright, but he said the meal had basically no flavour... Insanely bland. Beef dip - Literally just some average meat on a processed bun with some Au Jus. The bun at least wasn't burnt, but it tasted like something from a concession stand. Caesar salad - Not terrible, but VERY salty. It had processed parm and croutons with capers that made it even saltier. Resort Salad - Probably the tastiest thing we tried on the menu! However I'd ask for the dressing on the side... It was loaded up. Fish & Chips - Not terrible, but very breaded and processed. Naan Club - Dry chicken, very salty yet not much flavour. This really needed some kind of sauce with the Dijon mustard especially if the chicken is dry. Fries - these were actually good!
I understand that there are staffing issues, but the fact that the higher end restaurant (Antler's) was closed was a massive disappointment when you have to eat processed food for days on end. Great stay at the resort overall, but the food brought down the experience. Please bring down your prices to reflect the kind of food/quality being served. We will be rethinking our next stay at the resort because...
Read moreUpdated Review - July 2023 We stopped in again for lunch after a morning of swimming with the kids. The restaurant only had 1 table that was finishing up inside with a couple of tables outside as well. Our one child enjoyed their grilled cheese again, and the other enjoyed their penne pasta with sauce. My wife order the tandoori chicken wrap and it had great flavour and spiciness. I chose the 1 piece fish and chips which was very tasty as well, and I was happy that they had some packets of malt vinegar available. The one thing we noticed is that the menu seems like there's less options than previously, or at least for items we would choose to order. Prices are similar to last year. The service was quite good, however, we did notice at one point that there was a couple waiting to be seated with 2 employees watching the Stampede on the big screen. Things like that shouldn't happen at a resort like this.
Original Review - July 2022 Stopped in for lunch at the Bear's Paw Bar & Grill after a morning of swimming with the kids. It was fairly empty when we arrived. We ordered the pickled Caesar along with the electric lemonade which were both quite tasty, although the picked Caesar was a little too salty as brine juice from the pickles are used in the drink. The food was quite tasty as usual. The kids enjoyed their grilled cheese and fries, even though the server screwed up the order as one of them ordered pasta, but was too hungry to wait for the proper order to be prepared, which they offered to do after realizing their mistake (not a huge deal). The resort salad with chicken was delicious, although there was a bit too much dressing. It was a good portion as well, but for $23 it better have been. The beef bul-go-gi with rice was prepared properly as I requested no onions or green peppers. It was quite delicious as well and was a decent portion for $21. Again, typical resort prices (a glass of Coke was $5). Overall lunch ran just over $100...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I come up here at least twice a year. Every time we come there's one issue, the shorter blonde waitress/bartender. It seems she goes out if her way to be a pain in the ass. The first visit here, my boyfriend and I were sitting on the patio waiting for our order. A couple, their young child and an order relative were looking for a table to sit at. The patio was super busy as it was a nice day. There was one table with one chair, my boyfriend and I gave up our two unused chairs and found another one so this family of four could sit. After the blonde waitress said they couldn't sit in the bar area as they had their young daughter with them; she said they couldn't sit at the table outside because it's a fire hazard. She told them they couldn't sit there ( she must be a mean girls fan ). My boyfriend confronted her, letting her know she doesn't need to be rude. She responded with "is this any of your business?" My boyfriend and I grabbed our drinks and stuff and moved inside so this family could sit and have a drink and eat. We moved inside to finish our meal. The blonde waitress approached our table and said she wasn't being rude and she didn't appreciate what we did. She has one hell of an attitude. You work in travel and hospitality, you choose this profession maybe learn some people skills and customer service and change your attitude. Seems like she hates her job. The bar needs more staff or stop talking about your weekend and do your job. Waiting 15 minutes on the patio. No one aknowedged us, so we left and went to the golf course on the other side of the highway. If you want good service go there. The waiter remembered us from last October, super friendly, fast and great food. The rest of the resort is wonderful and such...
