A fantastic little fish and chips spot, with excellent staff.
Food: The fish batter is excellent, light, crispy, and with just enough thickness. Fish is always fresh, and never tastes off. Fries are well made, but could stand to be seasoned, although it's likely a safer bet to leave that up to the customers taste which is completely understandable. Clams are also generally well made, they can get a little grease soggy towards the end of the meal, but that's clams for you. The seafood chowder is phenomenal for a fish and chips joint, definitely feels more like a sit down restaurant, and I know folks have ordered it in bulk for functions. Most importantly (in my opinion) they have excellent tartar sauce, I believe it is made in house, and it's provided in a full large squeeze bottles. Coleslaw is the only thing that could pack a little more umph. Some people say it's great but I find it's like, memory of coleslaw. Coleslaw La Croix, if that makes any sense.
Wait Staff: The staff is incredibly welcoming here, and generally will know your name by the second or third visit. Not only are they are kind and quick with their customers, they can banter well with the more rowdy regulars, and can dish cheekiness right back to those that deal it. I've also seen them host birthday meals for a few of their regulars and they definitely go beyond what you would expect from a small fish and chips joint.
Atmosphere: As I said before, it's a small place, and depending on who you are and what you're looking for this might be it's biggest downfall. The walls are brightly colored, and the knick knacks suit the theme and aren't too conspicuous or ostentatious. But, it's a small venue, and always very busy, with regulars. This makes it generally pretty loud, where customers are friendly and familiar with each other and will talk across tables, where older gentlemen and the wait staff will abuse each other facetiously, and where almost every table is full most of the time. Don't expect a quiet calm private dining experience. Don't expect to get food within 5 minutes during lunch rush if you just walk in and don't phone ahead, it's simply not equipped to accommodate it due to it's (deserved) popularity. If you have auditory or stimulus sensitivities, you will definitely want to get this taken out. If, like me, you find this to be part of the charm, you can't go wrong here! Since it's subjective, I've given it a three in this review to try and be fair and objective.

Read moreSo my experience wasn't a good one ..first off I waited for my food so long that I believe they forgot about my order, a few people that ordered behind me received theirs way before I did..I actually to ask if they forgot about my order..the response was "what's the name" I told them they didn't ask my name, she looked confused checked out back and then peeked thru the food window and said I see it over there it should be out soon..(.like what??) Okay waited a bit longer (she commented that when she doesn't get a name for the order it's labelled "front".( okay fine ). The people I was with had already got their order and were seated outside eating and they ordered three people after me. I actually was starting to get sick I was so hungry waiting(irrelevant but still) . So now my food finally came out in a take out bag, I went outside with the others I was with sat down and the food looked like it was thrown together a few fries on a paper plate and a big piece of fish(very good) but it was all cold..fries and fish cold(this tells me it was forgotten)...two coleslaws (fine) but no tartar sauce.(The others I was with their food was hot) The other people at the picnic tables commented wow that took forever. because of the time I ordered and they also commented on the portion size in comparison to their order. For $17.10(taxes in) you would expect a bit more than what I received. So this is totally based on my experience some may have better some may have worse but the whole experience was not favorable and I actually was looking forward to going to this establishment..but I won't be back based on this visit.😔 Side note there does seem to be priority given to seated guests for faster food service (three tables of two or more people, after I ordered came in a received food long before my order was received)also phone in your order for faster service that also seems a much better option. I did get take out because we were sitting outside so I thought that would be easier but the people I was with got there order brought to them so lesson learned on that option. Sorry to say not a great...
Read moreI have visited this establishment multiple times and the food has been great. During one of my last visits a couple of months ago I asked if they would ever consider a reservation for a group of 8-9 people. I asked because considering the size of the interior a reservation of this size would occupy nearly half of the seating, and yet they said they would and advised me to call closer to the day to arrange the details. Fast forward to a couple weeks before my desired reservation date and I attempt to call them to arrange the reservation... no phone number on google or Instagram. I eventually found the phone number on Facebook and give them a call and explained the conversation I had, had previously and that I would like to make a reservation for a couple weeks in the future. The individual on the phone seemed a tad confused as perhaps reservations are uncommon. Nonetheless they proceeded and over the phone I could hear them ask another individual nearby if a reservation would be ok to which they said yes. With that confirmation I arranged the time and assumed that the reservation had been taken down. Then, last night, the evening that I graduated university I brought my family on a bit of a drive out of the city and ensured that this was a nice little spot on the Bedford highway for my graduation dinner. When we arrived I walked in to the restaurant and observed it at near max capacity and was told that they had no reservation and that there would not be room for the 8 people we had in total. The young children we now hungry and upset and our plans destroyed.
The food is great and this doesn't change that but after an experience like this I'm not sure if I will be returning in the...
