SO QUICK UPDATE WEEK LATER TO BE FAIR AND HONEST due to their request and reply which i didnt respond to! i went there yesterday and i didnt disclose myself neither have i contacted them as requested, i was impressed, I PAID THE FULL PRICE , i enjoyed my food finally,drastic improvement fresh TASTY food ( the smoke jerked chicken was good more smoking the better the taste), New Younger Lady there who was friendly and acknowledged customers not just me even others who came, so I HOPE THEY KEEP GETTING BACK TO THE BEST of service and food so some of us dont have to go to ISLAND GRILL NO! MORE! keep up the improvement! 5 star.

So iv been here many times, food has definitely changed not for the best, first there were two young guys who ran this place and despite their lack of courtesy food was good, good smoked tasty chicken(jerked chicken is the only thing i get, and rice) but now the new owners or whoever they are, chicken is for sure baked not spicy as it used to be, bland (no taste at all or very small TASTE the chicken for sure is baked and may be coated with alittle smoke on the skin ! the reason why am writing this is hopefully for constructive criticism, i was last there yesterday and i guess this is it.I couldnt even finish what i bought just had a bite. And then the young lady ( there are two of them one is younger than the other as they are there when i go and a gentleman)behind the counter please acknowledge your customer say hello at least "Ill be right with you" courtesy common. Iv been to island grill people say its the best but i don't think so, this store to me had some tasty chicken but now island grill for sure grills their chicken not baking as you can taste the smoked chicken right through...COURTESY! PLEASE TO YOUR CUSTOMERS. smoke or at least coal bbq the chicken like island grill.i had to drive all the way to the west end for their food last week , but then yesterday i came to aya me deh to see if anything has changed before i can post a comment, i gave it 3 trials and it was a thumbs down.. ie the last three weekends iv been stopping by, i would write more but i may be misunderstood..I guess no more jerked chicken for me :( the former owners made better jerked chicken than island grill...

I came from Ontario and was feeling for Carribean comfort food. I went straight from the airport to this place. First red flag was the place was dark, and dusty. The food counter displayed were also dirty on the inside and needed to be clean. Since I came so far, I decided to still order, to support my own people. I ordered a beef soup ($13.50), a small fry chicken($20), and a small jerk chicken($20). Mind you, they charge and extra $1.20 for oxtail gravy. The soup had very little seasoning to it. It was mostly dumpling and two pieces of beef. The fried chicken tasted blah and no seasoning. It doesn't even compare to KFC chicken. The rice and peas were dry, not even water can rehydrate it. The jerk chicken WAS HORRIBLE!!!!!! It tastes old and like cardboard. I brought the jerk chicken back to this establishment, and I told the lady working there I would like a refund on it, and explain the reasoning. They told me no. I told them I only two two bites of the chicken and some rice (I EVEN HANDED IT BACK TO THEM AND SHOWED THEM). They called their boss and their boss told them I couldn't have a refund. I DO NOT RECCOMMEND YOU COME TO THIS PLACE!!!!! PLEASE TRUST ALL OF THE 1 STAR REVIEWS ON THIS PLACE!!! THE FOOD IS GROSS AND THE STAFF LSCKS...

This is my second time trying this restaurant and it has improved since then. I’ve included some photos so that you can determine whether this is a good portion or not. Everything came to $52.

Red peas soup: 8/10 Rice: 7/10 Jerk chicken: 7/10 Fried chicken 8/10 Coleslaw 6.5/10 Fried dumpling 9.5/10

There was a healthy amount of rice plated at the side of the chicken, it did not cover the bottom of the box. The texture of the rice is a bit different than I am used to.

Soup: More of a thinner consistency than a thick one. Generously portioned with plenty of meat and food. The flavour is there but could be increased.

Jerk chicken: Not your authentic jerk chicken and could be a bit more flavourful. However, it was still enjoyable to have.

Fried chicken: Nicely flavoured and I enjoyed the level of crispness. The size of the chicken was generous and I would order this again.

Coleslaw: This tasted like they added seasoning or used a dressing that is close to tasting like coleslaw but not quite.

Fried dumpling: This tasted so good. Nicely flavoured, soft, and actually delicious. I would definitely...
