Jekyll or Hyde? Two visits and two VERY different experiences (at the same location). The servers really make a difference and clearly not everybody loves their job here.
On my first visit (Friday June 7th 2024) - great experience (server: Noemie, 5*):
The staff were very courteous and up-beat, which can be a bit hard to find these days. Service was mostly good - had to capture the server's attention a couple of times, which is somewhat excusable considering that this is a fairly popular place.
The food was very good and the prices for food are excellent considering the quality you receive. Drink prices are perhaps a bit steep, however.
I would highly recommend the Barria tacos as well as the guacamole!
The atmosphere of this location is superb. It is a very trendy spot which is very lively, well lit and clean. It was a nicer than I had expected. Restaurants everywhere could take a lesson in a curated environment like this.
On my second visit (Saturday June 8th 2024 - one night later) - terrible experience (server: Laurie, rating? I prefer not to say):
Tried to order two enchiladas: one chicken and one beef. I was told by the uninterested server that it is "too busy" and "it is too complicated for the kitchen staff". Interesting, considering that you can order the Mexican Flag for only $2 more than the two enchiladas entree and you get one chicken, one beef, and one spinach (not that great - I tried it).
I told the server that I was more than happy to pay the full price for the beef version (costs $1 more than the chicken). I also said that in fact, the kitchen staff -are- capable of this kind of substitution, considering that there is an entire entree with the premise of one chicken, and one beef ...
Service was generally slow and impersonal. I will say this however, all of the supporting staff were extremely attentive. Perhaps our server was just having a very off-day. I feel a bit bad writing this but I want to always be...
Read moreI’m really sorry to say, but as a Mexican, I found the Bierria tacos insulting. The consome Is just supposed to be the liquid with a little bit of onions and cilantro that’s it. In this consome, I found other things that were not pleasing and it did not even taste like consome. Now the tacos were super greasy and I’ve had those before. I know what Birria tacos are. They’re not supposed to be that greasy. As I took a bite, the meat was overcooked and It taste tasted like I had a spoonful of oil in my mouth. I am disappointed because I do like their Carne Asada tacos, but apparently that’s the only thing I like from them. I’m not really sure I’m gonna order again if it’s just the tacos I’m afraid to try anything else because It might disappoint. If you’re a real Mexican and are wanting a Birria tacos from Mexico, don’t get them from here, Unless you wanna full grease taco with fake consome, be my guest. And if I’m being honest, since when does Birria tacos have cheese in it. If you actually go to Mexico and go to El Mercado. And ask for Birria tacos with consome, They serve the Birria on one plate, the tacos and the extra onions and cilantro on another plate and the consome with onion and cilantro, and you build your taco, so it’s grease free and cheese free and yes, they give you cilantro, onion, salt, and lemon and you can drink the consome like that or you can dip it in your taco. That was really disappointing. When I was a kid, I used to go every Sunday to this place to get birria with my family. So when I ordered this, I would’ve thought that it would’ve hit like home, but apparently I was very wrong. And I’m sorry to give this review, I actually like the Carne Asada, but I had to put my opinion for the...
Read moreI normally don’t write reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. I ordered two chicken tostadas from 3 Amigos (totaling $34 plus tip), and when I got back to my car, my wife and I opened the bag to find both rice bowls half full—one noticeably less than the other. The salad smelled off, and the chicken didn’t look fresh or safe to eat. My wife took a video of the rice bowls as evidence, and not to mention that the food is not even real Mexican Food.
We went back inside politely requesting a refund due to the quality. Instead of being treated with professionalism, the owner became defensive and rude. He refused the refund, insisted I “go to the back with the food,” which I declined, and then escalated by yelling and asking condescending questions like “What do you do for a living?” When I replied that I was an accountant, he mocked me by asking if I knew restaurant rules.
I can’t help but feel that how I looked—a Black man in a tie, 6’2” and muscular—played a role in how I was treated. The tone quickly went from customer service to something much more hostile and personal.
This is not how any paying customer should be treated. Poor food quality is one thing, but public disrespect and unprofessionalism is another. I will not be returning—and I recommend anyone who values dignity and basic customer service stay away...
