A Disappointing Experience – Could Be So Much Better
Unfortunately, our experience at this restaurant fell short on several fronts. Let me walk through it from the beginning.
We arrived as a large group and, like most people do, headed to the washroom after being seated to wash our hands. Surprisingly, every washroom had empty napkin holders—no way for anyone to dry their hands. Naturally, this led to water dripping onto the floor, making the area messy and unsafe.
The interior itself is quite spacious and the decor theme is nice, but even that was overshadowed by the poor condition of the furniture. The chair I initially sat on was wobbly to the point where I genuinely thought it might break. I had to swap it out, which shouldn't happen in a place trying to offer a decent dining experience.
Water was served in plastic party-style cups—the kind you’d expect at a children’s birthday party, not a sit-down restaurant. It really took away from the experience.
As for the service model, if I remember correctly, we had to order and pay at the counter before receiving our food. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be aware of.
When the food arrived, things didn’t improve. We were served dal and curries with no serving spoons provided. Were we expected to use our hands? When we asked for some serving spoons, they handed us soup spoons instead—not at all practical for what we were eating.
The staff weren’t unfriendly, but they weren’t welcoming either. The overall vibe felt indifferent.
I usually avoid commenting on food taste because that can be subjective, but I will say the quality seemed okay. The taste wasn’t bad, but nothing stood out either.
This place has potential—it really does—but it’s clear that it's being left to run on autopilot. A restaurant can’t thrive without proper attention. Ownership needs to be more involved; without that, the customer experience will...
Read moreno idea why this restaurant has 4 stars. the food is subpar. the chhole are bland and lacklustre- imagine the chhole of all indian restaurants and average out the flavour- that’s where bikanervala stands. the mango lassi is also the standard artificial lassi available at every store. nothing new or unique or worth your money. the chili garlic noodles have no flavour. they are just noodles that are spicy. amritsari kulcha was decent.
the chhole (w/ bhature and kulcha) come in clear plastic takeout containers. very classless behaviour. this is a dine in restaurant, why are we being fed in takeout containers? it looks so cheap.
my personal pet peeve is that the rest of the dishes used are also plastic. this restaurant positions itself as elegant with its decor only to hand us cheap plastic plates. feels very jarring and quite frankly, gross (the microplastics).
ambiance is not good - in the back room for extra seating, there is one statement wall and the rest of the walls are bland and bare. the lighting is ok
the service is not good - nobody checks on us from time to time and asks if we’re doing ok, how’s the food, if we would like anything else, etc. anytime we decided we wanted something else to eat or any other drink, we had to get up out of our seats & seek out the waiter. this is not the behavior of a decent restaurant
the music that’s playing has ads and the Eros Now instrumental that’s found in youtube videos. I don’t know what that’s about but it takes away what little magic there is from an already dull experience.
all in all, there is nothing special or unique about bikanervala. it is a basic average boring indian restaurant, no different from the rest. i was told that the original bikanervala in delhi is a very good and popular restaurant. i’ve never been there myself, but i can’t imagine this can even...
Read moreLiving 2 minutes away from Bikanerwala, I visited the restaurant during the first week it opened, and had the worst experience dining in. The place is extremely mismanaged and disorganized. You first have to place your order at the counter and find a table. Then if you find a table, you wait at the table for however long it takes for them to bring out your food. In my case, my friend and I placed our order of noodles, momos, tikis and mango lassi. Once seated, the server did not care to bring out any dishes or utensils before hand. We waited 30 minutes and finally the first item (tiki) was brought out. We had to ask for plates and utensils which were disposable (not acceptable for dine in, in my opinion). We then waited another 10 minutes for the next item (noodles) and finally waited another 5-10 minutes for the momos to come. We had to remind the server that we were waiting for mango lassi, which we got once we were almost done eating our meal. Furthermore, the prices are ridiculously high and the food portions are very small in comparison to other great restaurants. Food was average. Noodles had too much salt while the momos were good. The mango lassi was brought in a small plastic cup, generally used for water. Definitely not worth $6. Same mango lassi at other restaurants is around the same price, but you get more than double the portion. Needless to say, I will not be visiting...
