I ate here fairly often, but that will end now. I reserved a particular table for the breakfast buffet. When my wife and I got there, the table was in use. I was told the people at the table were regulars and had been there since 8 pm (my reservation was for 10am and it was 10:01am). This was an obvious lie since they were still eating and nowhere near done. People don't eat for 2 hours. My wife overheard a discussion amongst some staff about the situation before a manager (I presume) came to apologize and said the people at our reserved tabe were regulars and they expected them to be gone by then. That's much more believable, and understandable, and she sounded sincere. But the worker with red-dyed hair and glasses kept giving my wife dirty looks, which didn't create a pleasant atmosphere. The worst part was that 30 minutes after we were seated, our waitress, who was not friendly as usual (she's served us many times), came and asked how I'd be paying. I never asked for the check, and still had food on my plate! I said that I'd pay with debit when we are ready to go. She left and came back with the debt machine within seconds. I thought, "Okay, I can pay now, but I don't have to leave right away because it's an all-you-can-eat buffet." I'd only gone up twice, so it wasn't over-eating. But as I was paying, she picked up my plate AND MY FORK. The plate, okay, because you have to get a clean plate when you go back to the buffet, but the fork you re-use. That was as clear as it gets the we were being ushered out. There's two side to every story, but I can assure you, we were not rude, and did not make a scene, although most people would have been much more upset than we were. We were annoyed, and let that be known be the greeter, and that was all. That treatment was completely uncalled for and inexcusable.
The food was good. The price is good. The atmosphere would have been good were it not for the treatment we received. And clearly, the service was the worst I've ever experienced. Beside getting ushered out, we were also ignored and had to request a coffee refill, because she wasn't offering.
Update: The owner reached out to me after looking into my situation. He was very apologetic and was clearly unhappy about what had happened. That means a lot. The rude server, Gail, claimed there was a misunderstanding. I don't buy that, but she has to be given the benefit of the doubt. I have been back several times since, making sure to be seated outside of the rude server's area. The rest of the staff has always been very friendly and accommodating. The buffet is great and I'm glad to be able to...
Read moreI have been wanting to try the Sherwood since I read they had a buffet with Pickerel. Unfortunately we got off to a bad start because all the Pickerel was doughy. I will say that the Perch was really good, however for the most part we found a lot of the food flat (as in unseasoned). Well I guess half the mashed potatoes were supposed to be garlic, but they weren't labelled (nothing was, which interferes with my sense of order when the bar is set up for signage) There were also Redskins, also greasy and unseasoned, a few herbs would have made a world of difference here. The buffet was a small bar, offering 3 types of potatoes, and 2 vats of nasty instant brown gravy (which there is no excuse for when you are roasting your own beef). We both agreed there was a major lack of variety.
I thought the carved roast beef was better than Mandarins but my husband took what they gave him and found it to be it was quite dry. I had asked for “med-rare/rare redder the better”. The wait staff was terrible, we had ate 2 plates of food, one of salad and were working on dessert before they offered drink or water refills. Salads were ordinary, hubby said the Greek was slimy, I did not have the same experience with the Caesar.I had no opinion either way on the desserts (I was probably overfull on perch and roast beef), hubby really liked the rice pudding.
If they cooked right and ran the place like they cared, you wouldn't be able to get near it. The place could be a destination, but frankly as it stands now, it won't be one of ours. We came from Hamilton and we have decided if we are going to make a drive that far for fish we'll drive a little further and go to back...
Read moreI wish I could leave a no star rating! I went here in order to have a nice lunch to catch up with a friend. We were rushed into ordering with the phrase, “ alright girls, time to order before I have to put you over in the dark corner.” She was referring to the darker side of the restaurant. We had just had our coffee poured and chatting for a very short time. After ordering and being very specific, they did not give me the food I asked for which was all white meat and it came out with all dark meat. The rudest waitress of all time then offered packaged condiments mid meal and did not notify that she would charge us for said condiments on the bill separately. The food was unpleasant and approximately 2 and a half minutes after the bill was delivered she came to us with the machine telling us,” alright ladies, let’s do this, it’s not like it’s lunch time or anything.” She forced us to pay and leave, while we were still trying to drink our coffee. The restaurant was not even busy and we were there for less than an hour. I felt like I was so disrespected in that moment. Not just as a paying customer but as a person in general. I didn’t complain because I was just dumbfounded from start to finish of my experience here that day. I wrote to them privately and received no response. Therefore I choose to warn others. For a very poorly made meal with minimal ingredients, this meal came to just over $28 for a hot turkey lunch with French fries and a coffee. I had to pay an extra charge of $2 for cranberry sauce that...
