Parking was bad. I expected that from the location and reading other reviews. However I chanced it and it worked out - not a problem.
The place is tucked away and quite a nice little restaurant. Modern, but laid back atmosphere. Lots of wait staff. Lots of tables. Pretty busy. Things started to fall apart after getting the menus.
We chose within a few minutes and barely had to wait for the waitress to come back. Then, the actual waiting began. For a total of four rolls, we waited almost twenty minutes at the table. A group got up, left, had their table cleaned, a few people sat down, ordered, were served, and nearly finished their meals. Numerous people came in for take out orders. None of them had to wait. Several small groups came in and were seated. I saw food going out to them. Then, after being completely ignored by the wait staff (offered tea or water and that was the last we heard), they magically arrived. After waiting that long I expected them to at least be great quality sushi. The salmon was marbled - very fatty and chewy. The only flavour from the spicy salmon/avo roll was the spicy sauce. The chicken was likewise near tasteless - almost rubbery. The California roll was easily forgettable. On top of this, the rolls were small. Tiny. I would have raised this with our waitress but I had no idea where she was (a different waitress appeared almost every minute to talk to people up front or take people to tables, but they never checked in on us or any other tables already seated).
We literally left and went somewhere else to eat after - it was that bad.
When it came time to pay I gave up waiting, stood up and went to the terminal. I watched as three waitresses standing their took their time - one grabbed a tray of (used) glasses and walked past me. The other went into another room and came back out. The third didn't turn around for at least a full minute. After waiting for as long as we did, this extra act of actively ignoring me was too much.

Read moreTried many sushi restaurants in the Vancouver, BC, region. This one is relatively new and not located in a high traffic area, and that can be a good thing. It appears to serve the local community, lots of Asian residents. One of the criteria I use to make me decide if I ever go back to a restaurant (lucky me that I live in a large city and I have numerous choices, I can afford to be choosy in the name of quality), is how clean the kitchen appears when I have a peek inside; usually I am waiting for an employee to come out. I saw many places where the kitchen walls were filthy, food (or something else) all over, I could see dirty garbage cans, dirty curtains...could not enjoy my food. Here at Victoria sushi, didn't see any of that. Maybe because it is too new. But I hope that my review will be read and converted into a cleanliness mindset. The food I choose was above my expectactions. The service was a bit slow but I do prefer to think that the food was cooked in the house and the cook was not one of those slaves not enjoying his work because some customers are in a rush to get home and kill some time watching soap opera. The cook and the customer are forming an invisible bond through the food. A meal made well, makes me enjoy every ingredient like a simphony of flavours and taste. The waitress was relaxed and calm, I felt welcomed in their house. I dislike the fast food attitude where I was treated like a number on a conveyor belt. Enjoy the food there but don't tell your friends because I don't want to wait an hour in line next time I go there, not to see these employees working like those working...
Read moreWent there with the boyfriend a few weeks back. Due to COVID there was understandably limited dine in seating. The waitress told us it would be a 30 minutes wait. My boyfriend left his number so that we could wait in the car. As we were leaving, the person behind us was told it would be an hour wait, so he asked to see the takeout menu instead.
After about 30 minutes, we got a call telling us that the table was ready. To our surprise, when we entered, we noticed the man who was previously behind us in line (who was told the wait would be an hour) was already seated and eating his meal before us! That was where everything went downhill.
We got an order of Salmon and Tuna Sashimi, Oshi Negi Toro, Salmon Oshi, and Chopped Scallop roll.
The Salmon and Tuna Sashimi tasted fishy and the tuna had a mushy texture. The Oshi Negi Toro was also mushy and had too much sauce on top (possibly to cover the fishy taste). The Salmon Oshi and Chopped Scallop roll was passable but we've had better from other restaurants.
Overall price is average for below average quality food. The fact that the person who was behind us in line (and was told it would be an hour wait for him) was seated and eating before us, speaks for the service.
The boyfriend and I both agreed, this restaurant has been added to our never...
