I had posted the following on a Community page for Restaurants. I got some negative responses from people and the owner seems to endorse them. See attached pics Then some people in the community reached out and spoke of the type of business acumen of the owner and his associates. A simple open source search will yield all. What a shame for a great location to be surrounded by such controversy and stained wirh poor quality and service to boot.
I'll preface this with letting all those Newesties with hard on's to "get your pitch forks and torches ready"
Went to the Notious Fox finally cus everyone was raving about em. Got there for 7:30pm
Positives:
The place was packed and seemed to have a good vibe. The Canucks game was on so I suppose that contributed to it The patio is really nice. The steak sandwich was "adequate"... nothing to write home about
Negatives: (literally everything else)
The inside was full so we sat outside. Took at least 15 - 20 min to get service The drink menu says something to the effect of "we can make just about any drink just ask" or something of the sorts. My partner asked for a raspberry mojito and our server barely knew what that was said she'd check and come back, i ordered the Nitro stout. 10 min later she said they couldn't make it or even a regular mojito. So my partner ordered a coke with no ice and boom another 10 min + again for the drink. when placing an order we were told they were out of at least 5 things on the menu lo and behold the few things I was actually interested in ordeing . Ok this happens but on a Saturday?? And for likely your most popular items .. that's just poor planning and preparation. While waiting on the patio the temp started to drop and the propane heater was running out so it was getting a bit chilly. Told our server and she looked at it ; went over to a stack of propane cylinders, muddled about and just left. Not so much as an "ill be back, ill grt someone or whatever" It got so chilly we moved to another spot that a group had just left and huddled around their heater. server came back and asked me what I ordered again cus she forgot, didn't even notice we mover ... ok that's fine but it was 2 orders for 2 people so not expecting too much from someone here. My partners fish and chips came with spoiled/rancid coleslaw... and the server didn't come around till we were almost 1/2 dobw our meal. When advised about the coleslaw she asked my partner if there was something else she would like instead. My partner asked what options they had and again the server said let me check and walked away and didn't come back till almost done and dropped off a Caesar salad ... what happened to "what are my options?" The server didn't even offer to take my partners plate away... I mean I kid you not when I say the coleslaw was rancid. I think that's just basic serving it right etiquette. the bill comes and not even a minor adjustment to it for my partners meal as would be reasonably expected. I have a strong expectation of service and value for it . turns out there was only two servers on for the night serving inside and out. This is a shame as it explains the long waits but poor management for a pub on a Saturday for a place that everyone is hopping on about.
Will I be back... sure maybe ... give it another go.
For a first impression...
Read moreWe live in the nieghbourhood, and finally got over to the patio last Saturday night to grab some grub and drinks. Knowing this is a spot for screen lovers, we chose a time when we could sit outside on the patio. We were directed to choose a seat that we would enjoy, and got a spot where we could both see the river. Nice. We were happy to see that the menu wasn't super extensive, as this gave us reason to hope that this was a place that did a few things well, rather than trying to do a whole bunch of things, well, not super well.
Sam was our server. Wow, Sam was engaged. She was listening, and thinking, and problem solving, and making a huge effort to make sure we had the best Grey Fox experience possible. Even after I told her not to go to any more trouble to accommodate my food allergies, and just keep it simple for everyone, she went next level and, well, I'll just have to tell you what she did.
Sam was aware of and concerned about my allergies. When we determined that there were probably sesame seeds on the hamburger buns, my husband and I opted NOT to share the burger after all. Sam suggested that they could maybe use a gluten free bun. No thanks, not for me. I didn't want a substitution, and was very happy to stick with my choice of poutine and leave the burger to my husband's discretion. Next thing I know, Sam is coming out the door with an example of their burger buns on a platter to SHOW me what they're like so that I can be assured with physical evidence that there are, in fact, no sesame seeds on their burger buns. Happy mistake, indeed! This is next level communication, folks. She wanted me to see it with my own eyes. Amazing. If you have food allergies at all, you will understand the peace of mind this produces when ordering food at a new venue. Thank you so, so much for caring, Sam, and for being a determined, creative thinker.
The Food and Drinks:
IPA made by Tinhouse Brewing in PoCo. It was so tasty we stopped by on our way to Maple Ridge on Sunday to grab a few four packs for home.
Classic cheese burger. Bun was fresh and soft, veggie toppings fresh, cheese melted. Most importantly, the burger patty itself was moist and juicy, perfectly cooked, with no unpleasant hard bits inside that patty which is the benchmark for me. I didn't use the house sauce or pickle, but hubby said those were tasty.
Lime margarita. Yummy.
Poutine. CRISPY fries. Those fries were still crispy after being drenched in gravy and cheese curds for fifteen minutes. Hot enough to melt the cheese, and the cheese curds were distributed inside the pile of fries, not just dropped on top. How else are they going to get hot enough to melt, right? Gravy was nice and peppery. I can usually only make it through a half order of poutine, no matter how hungry I am, because they just sit in your gut like a rock. Not these. Not sure why. No rock in gut after eating this pub grub.
Great experience, in spite of the fact that I am allergic to dogs and there are dogs welcome on the patio. But, dogs happen, and it's advertised as dog friendly, so...
Looking forward to trying the stuffed yorkshire pudding to see if the beef is as tender as I hope it might be....
Read moreI had the worst experience at The Notorious Grey Fox last night. I arrived with a couple of friends for an event. No one greeted or acknowledged us as we entered. It was busy and again no one acknowledged us or showed us where our group was. We picked up a menu and began looking at it. A waitress shouted at us "girls! Your in the way of everything. Go stand where you aren't in everyone's way." Her tone was incredibly rude and her voice was raised. Me and my friend were shocked.
We sat down at a chair and looked over the menu and decided on a drink. No one was acknowledging us, helping us, or taking our order. After a few minutes my friend approached the waitress who then began screaming at her that another waitress was looking after the social and that we were supposed to be outside. The waitress was very condescending, demeaning and spoke down to us.
We had no idea that we were supposed to be outside or that there would be a waitress outside because the staff were ignoring us and not directing us.
A second waitress delivered our drinks and was very pleasant and efficient.
When me and my friends left I approached the waitress that had been rude to us. I said, I know it's busy but you were so rude to us. She denied being rude to us an raised her voice and became elevated and aggressive. She told me I was misunderstanding and that she was not rude. I said your attitude right now is very rude. This woman was practically screaming at me.I asked for her name which was Crystal. She threw her hands in the air and I walk away from her. My group of friends could not believe how aggressive and rude she was. I have never been treated so poorly!
I won't be back based on this experience. There are plenty of fabulous local restaurants and bars in New West where I have received incredible...
