Hiro Sushi(Best Price on Website!) — Restaurant in Burnaby

This evening I ordered from Hiro Sushi as my go to spot was closed. I ordered 1 order of spicy tuna, I order of spicy tuna rolls and a green salad, not super adventurous but ordered off the top.

I was given a time of 15 minutes for the order to be ready which pleasantly surprised me. When I arrived to pick up my order I noticed the atmosphere was good, there were a few tables occupied by customers and only three people working, The owners/employees were busy.

I paid for my food and left the establishment. I love to support small businesses and am quite loyal once I find a place I like. When I opened up the containers it was not quite what I expected.

The tuna rolls were fat and the portions were large. However, the spicy tuna was also large portions but looked as though the tuna was pulled apart by hand. The sauce was over portioned and completely overpowered the taste of the tuna. It looked like someone mashed the fish in the container, poured the spicy sauce over top and shook the box.

When I opened the salad, again the portions were large, but looked as though the base of the salad was prepped by tearing pieces of lettuce by hand. The bottom of the container had a pool of water on the bottom. I assume from washing the lettuce.

Thw overall taste of the food was okay. Prep and presentation was far less than desirable. Not something I would expect to pay that much for (cost me 30$ with a tip) considering what I got.

I did read the other reviews which echoed similar things that I noticed. However there was a decent amount of people whose experience was much different than mine.

Mixed Experience at Hiro Sushi Hastings and boundary (Sunday September 10.2023 at 8:45pm)

My recent visit to Hiro Sushi left me with mixed feelings. We arrived 1 hour and 20 minutes before closing, and unfortunately, the initial interaction with the waitress left much to be desired. She seemed impatient from the start, which set an uncomfortable tone for the evening.

I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki with 5 pieces each of Tuna and Salmon Sashimi, along with 2 servings of Seaweed Salad. However, an issue arose when the bill displayed (10)(10) instead of the (5)(5) that I had ordered. When I calmly questioned this, the waitress responded with unnecessary loudness and frustration. It's essential to maintain professionalism, even in challenging situations.

Despite the service hiccup, I have to commend Hiro Sushi on the quality of their food. The flavors were excellent, and the prices were reasonable, earning them a solid 4.5 for food and a 3.5 for prices. However, the service rating is a low 1 due to the waitress's unprofessional behavior.

Regarding the ambiance, it was a mediocre experience, earning a 2.1 rating. In the end, while the food was delicious, the poor service overshadowed the positives. So I can't comment on the food. Atmosphere-wise it seemed okay, but I wasn't there long enough to give a full honest opinion of it.

We walked in around 7:00 p.m., it wasn't busy. There was only a few tables with a few people at them. I'm not sure if they were short of staff, but we stood there for a few minutes without any acknowledgment, then I suggested we just go sit at a table, I thought I caught the eye of someone, but I could have been wrong. We sat at the table for less than 10 minutes but more than five, and nobody came to us. So we left. I could see three staff people from where we were sitting. All behind the counter and appearing busy to be fair, but one would have thought there would have been some significant sense of acknowledgment of our presence. Hard not to notice us as there was so few people in the restaurant at the time.

I had heard the food was pretty good and the portions were reasonably sizable. I was looking forward to trying this out and had been planning on going for the past few weeks. So needless to say it really was a disappointment. Obviously I can't give a honest opinion about much, but initially, the service, extremely lacking.
