Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Location: 4735 Willingdon Ave, Burnaby
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Royal Paan, a charming restaurant nestled in Burnaby. From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm smiles and a delightful ambiance. Royal Paan offers a unique and diverse menu, showcasing a fusion of Indian and Pakistani flavors. Here's my review of this culinary gem.
First and foremost, the menu at Royal Paan is an absolute delight for food enthusiasts. It offers an extensive range of dishes, from traditional street food to mouthwatering desserts. Whether you're a fan of savory chaats, flavorful biryanis, or indulgent paans, this restaurant has something for everyone. The sheer variety and authenticity of the dishes make it a haven for those seeking an unforgettable culinary experience.
Let's talk about the food itself. The flavors at Royal Paan are simply outstanding. Each dish is crafted with care, using fresh and high-quality ingredients. The moment I took my first bite, I was transported to the streets of India. The chaats, in particular, were a standout. The tangy and spicy flavors perfectly complemented the crispy textures, creating a delightful explosion of taste in my mouth. The biryanis were aromatic and flavorful, with tender meat and perfectly cooked rice. The desserts, such as the creamy kulfi and the rich falooda, provided a sweet ending to the meal that left me longing for more.
The service at Royal Paan is worth commendation. The staff members were attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They were more than happy to offer recommendations and answer any questions I had. The food arrived promptly, and the portion sizes were generous, ensuring that every visit to Royal Paan is satisfying both in terms of taste and value for money.
The restaurant itself exudes a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The interiors are tastefully decorated, showcasing a blend of modern and traditional elements. The seating arrangements are comfortable, allowing for an enjoyable dining experience. Read moreI was very excited to see Royal Paan was soon opening as it's in my neighbourhood.
I went there last night and there was zero parking available, so I left. I returned this evening and it was much better in.the early evening. They need to assign spots to their restaurant!
The decor is not the most visually appealing but I did like the word clouds - that was pretty neat!
Considering it is called Royal Paan, it had 4 paans listed on the menu but the front counter has lots of options.
The servers are kind when they are at the table but they take a very long time to take your order and rarely check on you. It was the same to get your check on the way out.
I ordered the pav bhaji dosa which sounded fantastic and arrived looked very flat and BARELY had any filling. But it was tasty. The white chutney was very tasty and the sambar was very sharp tasting.
The Vada pav I ordered was a major disappointment! The actual pav was not like the small pav, it was more like a brioche bun - not ideal! It was slathered with an insipid green chutney that was quite flavorless and only worked when I added the white chutney from my dosa. The vada was not properly seasoned and the imli chutney was ok. Overall, this is NOT worth the money.
The Rabdi Falooda was absolutely delicious and was such a happy surprise after 2 disappointing dishes. It was rich, unctuous, full of crunch, the kulfi was so good, and was so pretty to look at too! DEFINITELY worth having this one and would go back here only for this.
The Mango milkshake was also very nice!
Overall, I'd go back here only if I was right there, not make a special visit. If I did go, I'd try the other snacks and not repeat any of these items other than the Falooda.
Go early for parking. I'm in no rush to...
Read moreTitle: Unappetizing and Unacceptable Food Quality
I recently dined at a restaurant with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience was far from enjoyable. The food quality was subpar, with two major disappointments that left me dissatisfied.
Firstly, the Mendu vada, a popular South Indian dish, was served to me in a raw state. The center of the vada was undercooked, resulting in a doughy and unpalatable texture. It was evident that the vada was rushed and not properly cooked, which was disappointing as it is a classic dish that should have been executed perfectly.
Secondly, the Chinese bhel, a popular Indo-Chinese appetizer, was served to me cold. The dish was meant to be a crispy and flavorful blend of vegetables and sauces, but instead, it was soggy and lacked any freshness. It appeared as if it had been sitting for a while before being served, which greatly affected the taste and overall experience.
These food quality issues were unacceptable and indicative of a lack of attention to detail in the kitchen. As a paying customer, I expect food to be properly cooked and served at the right temperature, and this restaurant fell short in both aspects.
To make matters worse, when I brought these issues to the attention of the staff, they did not seem to take my feedback seriously and did not offer any resolution or apology. The lack of customer service and responsiveness was disappointing and left me feeling unheard and ignored.
As a result of these disappointing experiences, I cannot recommend this restaurant to others. The raw Mendu vada and cold Chinese bhel were unacceptable in terms of food quality, and the lack of customer service only added to the negative experience. I will not be returning to this restaurant...
