I’ve been here a few times to try different items from their menu. First time, the wait took about 20 mins to receive my order but the woman was very friendly so it wasn’t a problem. Roti skin was decent but the curry wasn’t the best and lacked some seasonings. Also, wayyy too much potato and barely any meat. Doesn’t allow you to get the full potential of the meat itself. The size of the roti is about half the size that you get at other Caribbean restos for about the same price. It’s like a mini roti lol. Second time, I placed my order beforehand and picked it up. Upon arriving, the owner was busy chatting so i waited. He saw me when i walked in but continued chatting. I stood at the counter and waited almost 15 mins before getting acknowledged. During the wait time, I was looking for another employee to just hand me my order that was paid for, ready and sitting there but they were busy filling stock. The owner only acknowledged me because I turned to leave. At that point, I have to admit that I didn’t appreciate his attitude or dirty look but was happy to get my order and get out of there! All in all, service is a hit or miss, 50/50 chance of getting good service and the rotis are mostly filled with potato and little meat. Would give the roti a solid 6/10. Would buy again if I was really craving it but otherwise, there are better rotis at other, more authentic Caribbean restaurants. Overhyped on social media and lack of taste isn’t not worth the hype or price.
Read some of the reviews and hope the response isn’t that I have bad taste buds 😂😭 hope you guys step your kitchen game up and fix your service issue because I’d definitely give it another try. Otherwise,...
Read moreIt was my first time there and I wasn’t happy. I bought two meals. I bought jerk chicken rice and peas with macaroni pie. Not going to lie that gets a 4/5.. but my food was oxtail with Macaroni salad . I wanted rice with the Mac salad and the owner said I can only choose one side.. it was lunch special and the owner still charged us full price which I thought was odd. He was so rude to his employee. She looked like she wanted to cry during her shift. My foot was almost $60. That’s price is ridiculous! He was bossing her around and making her feel like she’s not doing her job correctly. When I ate my oxtail, I was soooooo sad. The oxtail was so tough.. it tasted like it needed to stay on the stove an extra hour and half. It was so hard to bite on, never fell off the bone at all. I ended up throwing my food away and going to another Jamaican restaurant called pimentos carribean cuisine . All I can say they’re fry bbq chicken was sooooo amazing. They were 10/10 and only spent $25 for 8 pieces with festival! I will never come back. I felt like the owner was having a bad day, because his energy was so negative. He’s...
Read moreI heard of this restaurant on Instagram and decided to make the trip to Montreal to give it a try.
While I haven’t had the chance to sample their dinner menu, I must say their breakfast options are outstanding. The wait time for service was a bit longer than expected, which might be due to occasional staffing shortages.
As for the food:
The peanut porridge was a perfect 10/10.
The ackee and saltfish with boiled dumplings were also a 10/10.
One standout item was the ackee and saltfish eggroll, a unique twist I hadn't tried before. It was incredibly flavorful and my personal favorite. Given that each order includes only three eggrolls, you may want to consider ordering a second set!
I also tried their sorrel, which was perfectly made, especially to my taste buds, not too sweet, not too bitter, with a nice hint of ginger.
Since my first visit, I’ve returned twice, and I look forward to exploring their...
