Austin's Bar & Grill — Restaurant in Calgary

THERE WAS A BEETLE IN MY FOOD.

I went to Austin’s tonight for the first time tonight, expecting it to be great since my parents had nothing but good things to say about it. First I ordered tea, and the glass mug I was given was very dirty. The waitress was kind and replaced it, not a problem. A forgiveable thing and not a big deal. Then I ordered pad Thai, which my mom said was great, and to my disappointment they were out. Even though it was very quiet in the restaurant.... I ordered butter chicken instead, which I regretted instantly when I tasted it. It was very bland, not creamy or the typical orange colour you expect butter chicken to be. The naan sucked and was soggy, thin, foam-textured grossness. But what do you expect with this kind of dish from a pub, right? Should have known better. THEN when I was a few bites into my meal, I found a BIG BLACK BEETLE IN MY BUTTER CHICKEN. Legs and all. I lost my appetite completely, as did my parents. I should also mention that they brought out the wrong burger for my dad. The waitress apologized and said we did not have to pay for our bill, and we left. June 20th around like 12:30am? My friends and I came we had a great time food was great except the server just completely ruined the atmosphere and vibe. she was extremely rude and unnecessarily dramatic. She gave below bare minimum service and almost never checked up on us then when it came to getting our food one of my friends got it so late that all of us were done eating by the time he got it and the server didn’t even acknowledge anything about it and just placed the food there then left. when it came to paying most of us didn’t end up tipping which with that service was expected. Still, some of us did tip. After seeing the majority of us not giving any tip the server expressed extreme rude behaviours like shaking her head after then she would talk about us to her coworker while staring us down. After this she proceeded to come over as we were packing up to leave and she said in an unprofessional tone “was there anything wrong with the service?” while slamming stuff on the table and then proceeding to move the tables vigorously. I can’t remember what the servers name was but it was something along the lines of “mik-something” she had brown wavy hair with a tattoo on her tricep. this behaviour should be dealt with...

We honestly LOVE Austin’s, especially their steak sandwich. And we love their serving staff, they have always been amazing and personable.

The reason for the 3/5 stars is because recently they have started charging at least $3.95 for substituting for a side caesar salad (in a tiny bowl). The menu states substitutes are an extra $1.95, and we were not told caesar salad was actually $3.95.

Also the tacos, which is listed under ‘sandwiches’ which the menu states comes with a side and you can substitute salad. Please note the tacos DO NOT come with a side. But there was zero mention of this on the menu, or mention from the server, so the tiny bowl of caesar salad was $5.95. We could have order a regular-sized caesar salad for a $1 more and shared it instead. The server was very apologetic and took off one of our drinks, but it definitely soured our experience. I know it doesn’t seem like a huge amount of $ in the long run, but it adds up, especially when the dish without subs is already $18 or more.

Please do better communicating your prices on the menu and through your staff. We love this place and wish to come back, but it was very disappointing this time around, especially paying so much for so...
