First time trying B&G—will definitely and happily go back! We were a three-generation group of five. Greeted promptly and warmly. Once seated, server was friendly, helpful with suggestions, and attentive but never rushed us. The space feels warm and cozy without feeling cramped. Lighting was good, music at "just right" level. It's billed as "Halifax Street food", so they have some Maritime beers on tap. It might be nice to have a few more—maybe even some craft beers—but I understand that might be difficult in these early post-pandemic days. They DO have some craft beers from the Maritimes in tall boys. There's also a pretty extensive cocktail list, but we didn't try any, so I have no comment on them except to say that some look quite intriguing. Food came quickly. We started with the fried pepperoni, which was ample and tasty. Two of us (including me) had the fish and chips. It's terrific! Two good-sized pieces of fish. Batter is light, tasty, and not oily Fish was cooked beautifully. Chips were good, cole slaw and tartar sauce were as well. I know where I'm going the next time I'm craving fish and chips—and I'm from the Maritimes. Two more had the standard (OG) donair, and proclaimed it delicious. It was the first donair for both. They commented on the nice balance of sweetness and spiciness. The fifth member of our party had the chowder and gave it a big thumbs up as well. We were there for a birthday (18th) and they brought a complimentary dessert (the blueberry grunt donuts), which was a nice touch and also yummy. Prices are perfectly reasonable. As I said, it was our first visit, so I can't speak to everything on the menu, but what we had was great! Definitely recommended. (No photos—I never think of taking them and there are plenty in...
Read moreMy first try at Blowers & Grafton was an absolutely superb, nearly perfect adventure. Nearly only because of a general lack of parking, which to be fair is basically expected from just existing in Mission. Can't hold that against them. And now that the bad is out of the way:
The service was excellent, with the staff being very friendly and helpful but not in an obnoxious, helicopter parent sort of way. They definitely set the mood for a lovely dining experience. Their soundtrack was great too, which is just my subjective opinion, but I feel it's worth mentioning anyway. They have live music on Fridays and Saturdays so check it out!
Their menu has plenty of great looking choices, but I went with the fish and chips. Chef's kiss. This was one of the best servings of an old favourite I've ever had. The fish was flaky and full of flavour, but like FLAVOUR flavour, not just fish flavoured grease. And flaky, I feel I need to mention that again. No rubbery fish here, people. Flaky fish breaded with delicious yes. Even my side of fries was fantastical. I'm not sure what sorcery they are casting on their potatoes back there, but it's working.
My partner in crime got the Eggs Benjamin, and it was just several minutes of her in both disbelief and joy that she finally found a place that "does a Benny right". Apparently this was a serious life problem she's been struggling to solve. Her potato based side was also summoned from some flavour dimension.
I will definitely be coming back for more, and I would suggest Blowers & Grafton to anyone who is a fan of great tasting food with an east coast flair! Or, you know, just a fan of great...
Read moreOn November 16th my family and I went to the newly opened Shawnessy location for lunch. Even though this location was only open for eight days, the staff delivered us an experience that made it seem like they had been open for a longer duration. We were warmly greeted by the hostess and taken to our table. From there we were introduced to our server Megan. She was very friendly and her customer service was top notch. Drinks were promptly refilled, her knowledge of the menu was excellent and she always had a smile on her face.
The food was exceptional. We decided to order the fish n chips, seafood chowder and the fisherman's feast. All of these dishes were served promptly and were freshly prepared. Most important was the fact that each of these dishes were absolutely delicious. Definitely one of the best places I have been to for fish n chips as the haddock was very fresh and the beer batter was perfect. On top of that the fries were well cooked and seasoned very well. To finish the meal off we shared the bonfire smores and that dessert was amazing. Nothing beats graham crackers served with a hot skillet with chocolate ganache and lightly toasted marshmallow.
The atmosphere was very welcoming, relaxed and casual. One thing I really appreciated was how the staff worked together as a team and each of them looked very happy performing their tasks. Although Megan was our main server, others would assist in delivering an excellent customer service experience. Needless to say we will be...
