MUST READ BEFORE EATING THERE! # RECYCLED FOOD! Went to eat at Radjoot and ordered pakoras which came with chutney. Correct me if I am wrong, but if I order a dish which comes with a side sauce or chutney, I believe that this is part of my order which I paid for and thus, I have the choice to either poor the chutney on my plate or deep directly into the small bowl. Well, it turns out that I was majorly wrong! When I proceeded to deep my pakoras in MY chutney bowl, the server came over our table and told me not to do that. When I asked why, his reply was that any left over chutney is being passed on to other customers who order pakoras. WHAT???? I asked the server to send over our table the owner. I asked the owner if this was current practice and he replied that it was and thus, we should not deep directly into the bowl. I asked the owner if he ever consider that some customers may have double deep or use their own fork or spoon to taste the chutney and thus, if some of those customers were sick, other customers could potentially get sick. His reply was that they have been operating like this for over 30 years and they never got a complain about customers being sick after eating at their restaurant. Well, if you read some of the Google reviews, you can read that there ARE customers who have stated being sick after eating at Rajdoot. SO I guess we now know why they got sick! #recycled food!...
Read moreI am not a one to give bad reviews but I felt utterly cheated at this restaurant! Never in my entire lifetime have I eaten such terrible indian food and paid such a huge price for it! My brother and I are visiting Calgary from Toronto and we were really excited to find an Indian restaurant close to our hotel. We opted for the dinner buffet. Not one single dish was ok enough to save our dinner! Not one! All the items in the menu tasted off and stale. Including the salads and the desserts. The food was not fresh and tasted like it was just about to go bad. The gulabjamuns in the dessert were dry and crumbly, the jalebi was chewy. The pakoras were dry and hard on the outside and uncooked on the inside. The samosas were super greasy. The curries in the main menu, especially the korma and saag aloo were inedible. My brother ate some of the chicken dishes finding the butter chicken stale and the tandoori not marinated. We ended up eating a few bites of the naan and some plain rice. The sign at the buffet says take as much food as you want but Don't waste any. But we had to leave a lot of food on the plate given the sheer impossibility of putting it in our stomach. We ended up paying 50$ for this...
Read moreIt's weird to think of Rajdoot restaurant in Mission as a "hidden gem," because it's actually been a staple of the neighbourhood since 1988, but a lengthy location move down the road which caused them to close their doors for a time, combined with a changing restaurant scene in the wake of COVID has really taken it's toll on this family business and I hate to see it. For my money it's still the best Indian restaurant in town. Not that I've sampled everything on their menu, but I defy anyone to try the dill fish tikka, tandoori chicken, and chicken azamani (butter chicken cooked in brandy and red wine with mango) and tell me this place isn't the bomb. Insanely good. It also boasts an inviting, unique ambience with a personal touch, reasonable prices, huge portions, far better hours than most Calgary restaurants (open until 1 AM the other evening), and every time I've been there over the last year-and-a-half they've literally rolled out the red carpet in serving me. Why this excellent "new" Rajdoot hasn't taken off, why it seems to be outside the circle of "trendy" Calgary restaurants, I do not know. If you enjoyed the old Rajdoot, or if you're just a lover of fine Indian food, you'll...
