Bow Tie Pizza (Sage Hill) — Restaurant in Calgary

We decided to have a pizza last night with the whole family. We got vegans, vegetarians and even milk allergies in this family. So ordering pizzas is no easy task. We have pretty specific instructions due to the dietary restrictions. We ordered 4 larges pizzas with specific instruction on a few pies. Like the 4 cheese pizza one daughter has no milk allergy and the other does. So we requested to make half the pizza like the original and the other half dairy free. Also had a recommendation due to the vegetarians. I tried to order the All Dressed and just take all the meat out but I was told to just go for the Veg Wedge so there would be more vegetables.

When I walked in to pick up the pizzas the staff was super friendly and the establishment is nice and clean. The pizzas from this place is a little thicker for my liking. I prefer a thinner crust. But the pies are loaded with toppings. This could be the reason.

4 Cheese Pizza - I got this pizza for the kids so I did not try it. But from what my daughter said she enjoyed it.

Beard of Zeus - This was interesting pizza. The flavours were more mediterranean. The feta, chicken and olives were delicious. This was probably my favourite pizzas out of them. I probably would add extra chicken on my next order.

Donair - Not the best donair pizza I've had but decent. I wish the donair meat had more of a crispier texture. I found it a little soft and more or a boiled texture. I think if it was finished off in a pan after sliced to give the texture more bite. But the flavours were good. The sweet sauce nice and not overly salty.

The Veg Wedge - My sisters enjoyed this pizza. They gave it a 4 stars!! I didn't try it myself.

The pizzas came with a bunch of sauces and I have to say they are awesome. The garlic aioli has an intense garlic flavour and very creamy. I loved it with my pizza. The chipotle sauce had a very nice kick. Not too spicy but a little heat. The dill sauce was also very good. I recommend getting the sauces with the pizzas.

Would give 10 stars if I could. I thought I had already tried the best pizza in Calgary until I tried theirs tonight for the first time. Wow, these guys have taken their pizza up to a level where they sit alone! Most flavourful sauce out there! Pizza was loaded with cheese and toppings, just like in their online pics. The crust was out of this world. It's possible they bake with cast iron? Crust was light, and caramelized...so good. The last time I experienced crust like that I was in Chicago. There are some great pizza places in Calgary but I don't think they can top these guys. I will be ordering again for sure.

In defence of Bow Tie Pizza I will comment on Nicole's 1 star review. The pizza sauce was not sweet, it was tangy and ridiculously delicious. Kids are picky eaters, and many are not used to quality pizza like this. A Hot and Ready from Little Caesars will make kids happy. Commenting on the cost. Well yes, pizza of this quality and amount of cheese and toppings is going to cost more. And finally mentioning that the Beard of Zeus was disappointing because it didn't have any pizza sauce. In the menu description it tells you that it contains the house made garlic butter, and does not contain pizza sauce. Can't blame Bow Tie for customer misreading the menu. It's very clear. We decided to try Bow Tie Pizza after hearing so many positive reviews. We can definitely understand why so many people love it. Starting with the ordering process- the online process I feel was simple and straightforward. It gave us a very reasonable time frame for delivery- and the delivery price was very reasonable.

Our order arrived before the time estimate- which was great! The pizza was still hot when it arrived.

We disagree with the comments about the Hawaiian pizza- although different from your typical “cheap” pizza joints- it was moist and very tasty- even reheated.

The four cheese pizza was our only -incredibly minor- issue. The pizza was cut into rather haphazard pieces- a very minor comment, not affecting the taste of the pizza. The pizza itself was delicious, however the cheese didn’t appear to be throughly melted. We nuked it for 30 seconds and it seemed to correct itself.

The garlic cheese bread was absolutely delectable. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The Donair sauce was delicious.
