iyycburg (Sage Hill) — Restaurant in Calgary

The food at this place is consistently good, but my recent experience with the service really overshadowed my overall impression, making me unsure if I'll return. I visited with my family for a meal, and while placing my order, I didn't request a drink because I can't have sugar and wasn't satisfied with their diet options.

During the course of our meal, I started feeling a bit thirsty, so I got up and politely inquired if they served water, as some places do. The staff seemed hesitant and mentioned they had tap water and bottled water. I declined the tap water and went to check out the bottled water options, which were located near the cash register. After considering the choices, I decided to wait, as none of the available bottled water options appealed to me. It's important to note that I didn't touch any of the bottles; I only looked at them.

I returned to my seat, and we finished our meals. We cleaned up after ourselves and began to leave. However, halfway to my car, one of the employees ran after me, accusing me of taking a water bottle without paying for it. This incident caused a scene and was quite embarrassing.

Considering that there were six of us dining and the bill wasn't cheap, it's puzzling why they would think I would try to cheat them over a $2-3 water bottle, akin to those available at Walmart.

As a fast food establishment, the usual protocol is to come in, place an order, pay, eat, and then leave. If I had indeed taken a water bottle, I would expect to pay for it before sitting down. If the staff member suspected me of taking a bottle, they should have either asked me directly or observed whether I grabbed one and then requested payment before I sat down. Updated Review, for not going to this place only one other time I have to say I think it got worse, I just spent $52 (3 dollar tip) dollars on 2 burgers 1 fries and milkshake and a bubble tea. Worst bubble tea ever, it's all crunchie ice, my wife did like her milkshake.

Got the Ultimate burger, onion ring and potato pattie/mushrooms but I didn't realize I guess that I had to add all the other toppings I wanted maybe??, I mean I hadn't been there in years and we were ordering like we had never been there before.

The burger was mediocre at best my wife got a samosa burger as it's really the only veggie option, she said "I'm not itching to go back again" was her small review to me. In closing, I love supporting small business around the area but I can't say this place was worth the money or the wait.

Old original review. I feel as though I gave this place enough time to get into the swing and did a full blown test on Friday night, ordered via skip over an hour in advance and I still had to wait 10-15 min. They had not started out order yet at all (disappointed), they lose a star for that. Let's get into the food, the gravy was not my cup of tea and was quite watery (glad I didn't get a poutine now), star gone. The burger was ok, smash burger style I ordered a double because I was told it wasn't a good ratio for the single in advance. I would say I could probably make just as good at home (I am pro burger cooker, not everyone is), although what held the 3 stars there was the sauce on the burger was awesome, the toppings are super fresh bun was toasted and the milkshake was good. Will I go back? not on a Friday night..it's iffy. Staff were friendly but far too many people having to wait...

Ambiance It is obvious that you want to eat at a place that looks clean and is clean, unfortunately the floors were very dirty, a simple rug could've prevented this. The tables where we sat had customers before us, no one from the staff bother to clean the tables before we sat. I'll rate the cleanliness and ambiance 5/10.

Service The staff was good but generally there was some clumsiness. Like when we told them that we'll dine in they still served us food in the take away boxes on the other hand the people who were siting beside us were served burgers in proper orange colored plates. Mind you we did order three burgers. Secondly we were given food likes boxes stacked one on another no concept of trays. No condiments on the table neither did they offer themselves but when we asked for it we were given a very small amount. I don't know when will our desis learn that a successful food business does not rely on reducing the condiments or napkins amount. Services 3/10
