They charge 5 cents for napkins
Very disappointed with the experience. I was visiting from Texas and came to Persian Plate on a friend’s recommendation. We came as a family on Sunday, July 20, 4:30PM MT, it was all empty and decided to order the family platter. To our surprise, the lady at the counter told us we couldn’t dine in with that order — it's for takeout only. I explained that we were traveling and already seated with my family, but she still refused to let us eat it in the restaurant.
I asked to speak to the owner, hoping for some understanding, but was told the same thing. No flexibility, no courtesy, and by then, we had lost our appetite and decided to leave.
Another friend had actually warned me about this place — tiny portions and sky-high prices (also charges 5 cents for napkins). I ignored the advice and gave it a chance, but now I regret it. Also worth noting: the restaurant was completely empty, which should’ve been a red flag.
Terrible customer service and absolutely no hospitality. Would not recommend. Stay away.
Update: I just read the owner’s response! I’m not here to defend myself—just encouraging others to read the other one-star reviews. You’ll notice a clear pattern: response to the complaints are all very similar to mine. That says a lot more than I ever could.
By the way, the owner mentioned I was making threats, but didn’t explain what kind of threat. Just to be clear, she was referring to when I told her I’d leave a Google review since I came to this restaurant based on Google reviews. She told me to go ahead—so I did. A promise made is a promise kept!
I also have a strong suspicion that some of the five-star reviews may be fake, possibly added to boost their overall rating. If true, that's a pretty shady business tactic.
One detail I forgot to mention earlier: during my visit, the owner was sitting and eating (corner table near the front door) while several tables around her were empty. When I politely asked if my family could sit and eat the food we were about to order, she simply said no and she was in a hurry to get back to her meal and didn’t bother to deal with the issue. That experience sums up the level of hospitality we received.
Honestly, if the staff refuses to accommodate guests and lacks basic customer service skills, this place shouldn't be running a restaurant. Maybe they’d do better in the...
Read moreWe've tried all the Persian restaurants in Calgary and wanted to explore something new, so we found Persian Plate on Google. We called ahead to inquire about booking a table for our group of 8, but were informed they don't take reservations, though they usually have open tables.
After a 30-minute drive, we arrived to find the restaurant very busy. Unfortunately, there was only one table available for four people. Despite being there for a family dinner, we decided to wait with the other four standing until another table freed up.
After over 40 minutes wait, a table finally became available. However, just as we were about to sit down, another group that arrived after us cut in line and took the table. We politely informed the restaurant staff that we had been waiting, but they disregarded us and suggested we sort it out with the other customers ourselves.
The situation escalated when the other group claimed to know the owner. Eventually, they reluctantly gave up the table to us. Instead of handling the situation professionally and acknowledging their mistake, the staff proceeded to take the other group's order at their table, despite orders typically being placed at the counter.
On a positive note, the lady taking orders at the counter was helpful. However, we found the food portions to be small, and the food lacked taste, especially the kebabs. Despite our requests, we weren't served tap water at either of our tables. In contrast, the group who cut the line was given royal treatment and had water served at their table.
We also found that multiple groups of customers who called the restaurant were promised a table at the same time.
This inconsistent treatment of customers is disappointing and not indicative of good restaurant service.

Read moreI ordered veggie kabob from uber eats. Firstly, there was no utensils given with the parcel. Secondly, the food was average. The quantity is bad and it’s not worth the price that I paid. I got grilled onions and tomatoes with rice and lettuce for salad, without any sauce which not even cost 5$ and I paid around 20$. Not gonna order again from here and wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. My worst Persian restaurant experience!
Edit - Thank you for your response. I understand some restaurants require customers to request utensils, condiments, and sauces, but as a first-time customer, I wasn’t aware of this. It would be helpful to make that clearer on the ordering platform.
Regarding the meal, I can only comment on what I received. Unfortunately, the portion size and quality didn’t meet my expectations. The platter was mostly rice, with a salad primarily filled with lettuce, and I didn’t receive dressing.
This is a review and feedback platform, where you as an establishment have an opportunity to address your customers’ concerns, not to claim their experience is ‘untruthfully stated.’ While I understand your perspective, my opinion remains unchanged, as I shared my honest feedback based on what I received. It’s disappointing that instead of addressing my concerns, you chose to undermine my experience.
