If you enjoy savoury pastries PLEASE visit this restaurant! Many people mention that this restaurant has great eastern European food, but even if you're not interested in eastern European or Central asian cuisine in general I still urge you to check out their pastries.
I stopped by because I learned they sold khachapuri, which is the only dish I fell in love with in my travels that I wasn't able to find in Calgary (until now!) I didn't end up buying it because they make it fresh and didn't want to wait 15-17 minutes but they did have some fresh cheburek available, and I did wait the five minutes for fresh potato pirozhki to take home. I ate the cheburek in the small seating area and enjoyed it (the flaky dough was perfect) but the potato pirozhki -- it was the best pirozhki I've ever had!!!! I sampled some as I started my car but ended up eating half on my way home, even though I was satisfied from cheburek, because it was impossible to resist. I attached a non-glamorous photo to my review, but that's all that was left in the 10 minutes it took to drive home.
If you don't know what pirozhki is: it's more like a samosa than a pierogi, but the dough is fluffier compared to a samosa.
Anyways. I don't review companies much but the quality of the potato pirozhki (piroshok?) compells me to write one. I almost feel like a crazy evangelist, I want to bring it to parties and bring it to people when I visit their homes! It's that good!!
The owner was very lovely too, he was eager to dispose information and before I went home he asked if I wanted a sample of their uzbek pilav to bring home (he apparently is a third generation pilav chef). I've had pilav before in the past (albeit not the Uzbek kind) and found it fine, but when i heated it up at home I found I really enjoyed the mixture.
I will return for khachapuri soon. I know it will be great. I'll probably return for pilav as well, and maybe their other pastries. I wish this restaurant all the best and I hope I can enjoy their food for...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at an Pilav Central restaurant, and I must say, it was an incredible experience from start to finish! The moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm smile and felt an immediate sense of hospitality. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, creating the perfect atmosphere for a memorable meal.
Now let's talk about the food - oh my goodness, it was simply divine! Every dish I tried was bursting with flavor and made with utmost care. From the tender kebabs to the aromatic pilaf, each bite transported me to the vibrant streets of Uzbekistan. The chef's skill and passion for their craft truly shone through in every dish.
But it wasn't just the amazing food that left a lasting impression; the staff's friendliness and attentiveness elevated the entire experience. They were attentive to every detail and went above and beyond to ensure my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional.
If you're looking for a culinary adventure that combines delicious flavors, warm hospitality, and a truly delightful atmosphere, I wholeheartedly recommend this Uzbek restaurant. Trust me, you won't be...
Read moreOh what an eggciting time now that Pilav central is open 7 days a week!
We just love Pilav central so much we must share this for everyone to try. They are located at the heritage plaza on Macleod trail.
Do you like egg salad sandwiches, if you do, then you must try these Piroshki filled with Egg and Spring Onions, it’s better than an egg salad sandwich x 100
Piroshki and other traditional Russian fried filled breads have a ton of variations. This version is a straightforward vegetarian option. The combination of hard boiled egg and fresh bright herbs is delicious inside the fluffy and crispy exterior. We called while we were on the way there to pre order the Piroshki’s and so they made them fresh for us.
They also have one of the best pilav in all of Calgary. This dish is a hearty traditional Uzbek dish. It's made with long grain rice, tender beef chunks, onions, and carrots.
And for dessert they have an in house made fresh Napoleon cake which is sooooo soft and creamy.
We also got a couple other items that got devoured before the camera could eat like the Vinaigrette salad...
