Courtyard — Restaurant in Calgary

Living right near by Fiddler's Courtyard I would go to this pub fairly often, usually on wing night. However a few weeks ago will be the last time I ever go to there. I sat at the bar with my husband and ordered some wings. The bartender asked to see our ID's which even though we are both 30 isn't too abnormal since we both look kind of young. The bartender was fine with my husbands ID but gawked and laughed at mine, then walked around the bar passing it around to many other waitresses who all gawked, laughed, and pointed at me as well. She returned my ID to me saying she couldn't accept it because it doesn't look like me with a snide look on her face. I showed her the other cards in my wallet with my name on them but she still wouldn't serve me. It definitely is my ID. I went back home.. since I live about 2 blocks away.. and picked up my passport to show her. The bartender and the other waitresses proceeded to do the exact same thing. I couldn't believe it! I understand not wanting to serve minors, but after showing her literally every ID and card I had she still handed my passport to other staff while they all pointed and sneered at me. Also I'm 30 years old! It's not like I've just turned 18 or anything. All I wanted was some wings, I wasn't even going to get an alcoholic drink! Without any apology about constantly laughing at me, she handed me my passport saying hesitantly that she would serve me, but my ID's don't look like me....which is crazy because THEY ARE ME! I felt very hurt and can't believe how I was treated. It never feels good to be pointed, laughed at, and treated like a criminal for no reason at all. Especially because many of those servers have served me in the past. I even had my birthday party there which gained the restaurant the money of 30+ people who ordered food and drinks all night. Worst experience ever, first time attending this bar, have had ONE DRINK in the TWO HOURS we have been here. The only reason why we stayed was we decided to go along with the events at the bar “Name that tune, but how can you enjoy that without a drink in your hand. Even when my table of 5 ordered their first and only round of drinks the server was absolutely rude. One person in our group was able to order one drink as the rest of us weren’t able to before she ran off still haven’t gotten that drink in almost over an hour and never got it before getting our bills. She is only serving one table as the other 5 tables including us are trying to get her attention to get more drinks but she is advoiding us at all costs. Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. It’s a Saturday night make sure you have good and friendly trained staff that can pay attention to all the tables they have been given. THE MANAGEMENT needs to get a grip and make sure they are equipped for these busy nights, otherwise they will lose all their customers. We saw a couple walk in and sit at the table behind us and wait over 30 minutes and they didn’t get any service, so they got angry and walked out. I love this pub. The beer is always fresh, and the service is always top-shelf. Seriously the best wings in Calgary. A special shout-out to Darien, the manager, who always has a smile on her face. I can honestly say I have never received better service than what she consistently provides. Quick service, but more importantly, she cares about her guests. Ha ha ha. Oh wow, I got silly one night, and she was so kind to me and went the extra mile to make sure I got home safely. Shalimar is a sweet server who really cares about her guests. I was with a friend who had a few too many, but she was so gracious and so kind, that when presented with a problem, she turned it into an opportunity to provide excellent customer service. Honestly, not many servers can do this. Nothing but positive experiences here. Drop by for a visit and I promise that between Darien and Shalimar, you will experience a truly beautiful night out. It would be rude of me not to mention Steph, a really friendly and amazing server who makes the night positive just because of her ever-present smile.
