We decided to try something new instead of our usual Goto for Japanese dining, ki was much closer to us and given some of the recent snow storms the shorter drive was a much needed reprieve. My partner and I started with an order of squid legs, the dish was quite nice and the side of mayo paired very well with the squid, next we shared an order of upon, very run of the mill and what you would expect for standard Canadian Japanese dining, the miso that accompanied my entre was a nice addition for the cold weather. As for the main course we ordered one spicy tuna crispy roll (deep fried) , one prawn katsu spicy curry, one potato croquet and one deluxe sashimi . The crispy tuna roll was quite nice and I found it paired well with the mayo from the squid leg appetizer I really enjoy deep fried sushi, as for the prawn katsu curry I didn't mind it, I found the presentation to be nice but a bit heavy with the batter, the curry was also quite mild unfortunately not living up the the spicy name, my partner had ordered the deluxe sashimi, again the presentation was interesting being served on a large bowl filled with ice, it looked great but ultimately made the sashimi extremely cold and took a bit away from the overall flavor texture. Over all we will likely check this place out again in the future. Not to bad...

When Katsuten shut down for good, my whole family was very disappointed. We were hesitant to try the new owners but they did not disappoint! We became regulars right away. Both the food and service are excellent!

Edit September 16, 2022: it used to be good when they first opened. Since they got busier, quality went down service is non-existent now.

Edit September 17, 2022: The original edit had nothing to do with one pick up order, but the overall decline in service and wait time over the past several months (dine-in and pick up). When there are more than 3 tables, you just don’t get any service as they aren’t equipped to handle the volume which is also evident on takeout orders which sometimes take well over an hour. Rather than addressing an honest review with professionalism, the restaurant responds to my edit by making a false claim about pick up time. Will not...

Decided to try after several good recommendations and was not let down in the least. It is small, but bright, clean and inviting as a place to drop in to eat. I decided to start small, with some red tuna sushi, inari and korokke. The sushi was well-seasoned, the tuna fresh and tasty and the size sushi is meant to be, not huge slabs of fish on giant rice balls (this is not an AYCE). Same goes for the inari, which had green onion in it (had not had before, but also tasty) with black sesame for texture. Pretty sure the croquettes were made with Japanese sweet potato - so good (but very hot, so don't dive in too quickly!). I also had spicy tuna (tasty but very mild) and yam tempura - very large rounds made it difficult to eat but tasty & had a satisfying crunch without being greasy or soggy. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Will return with spouse and/or...

This was really good! I eat a lot of sushi. In Vancouver and Japan. Let’s face it YYC doesn’t have a lot of sushi game. This little gem was pleasantly surprising. Their Crispy Spicy Salmon Roll was really good! They lightly battered and fried the roll so it was slightly warm and crispy on the outside. Yum! The sashimi was melt-in-your-mouth. If I wasn’t so full I would have ordered more. The service was excellent. The ambience is a small area with maybe 7 tables. It’s not fancy but we don’t always need fancy. It was interesting to eat sushi with 80s music playing but we didn’t mind because we love retro music. Lol. Definitely try it out! The price is right too. Dinner for two adults was around $68 and we were full! We will be back for sure.
