Simply put, I would never return to eat here. The entire experience was haphazard and uncomfortable - made even more so by the inflated prices.
We arrived to find the reception podium vacant. After being ignored by two young ladies seated behind a nearby desk, we walked over to ask about our reservation. We then had to ask (werent offerred) to hang our winter coats on a nearby utility rack positioned awkwardly in the middle of the main entryway.
We were then seated at a 4 person table which had seen better days, on hard plastic chairs. The room itself was as cold as an unheated garage - with many patrons wearing their coats; the nearby thermostat read 16C the entire meal. When I enquired about the temperature, I was told it would take 24 hours for the "old building" to warm up in the extreme cold outdoor temperatures - which was baffling, since the restaurant had the past 3 days of similar weather to recognize and address this.
Our server then proceeded to lead with and apology that "they were understaffed that evening, with a large corporate party, so our services might be unusally slow". I fail to understand how this is the problem of the customer, or why I would be told this, or why management wouldnt proactively ensure that they have enough staff - or offer to compensate with an appetizer or dessert. As we had made a reservation, it was easy to predict the need for staff.
Our server repeatedly rudely interrupted our conversation with questions and bringing food, reaching right across the table in front of people who were speaking, while also being awkwardly rearranging plates and glasses on the too-small table. As well, for 2 separate items, our server got the order incorrect.
The food itself was passable, average in preparation and presentation, arriving luke-warm. Some of the vegetables were undercooked to the point of being difficult to chew. The yellowfin tuna and rotisserie chicken were both prepared well and excellent sized portions.
Throughout the evening, the manager was no where to be seen - despite the obvious staffing, environment, and food issues.
All of this might have been tolerable - but becomes completely unaccpetable given the price point of $70 per person for an appetizer and main course + 2 glasses of wine. At best, the atmosphere, quality of service, and quality of food was comparable to a $40 per person price point - such as Earls or Moxies, both of which would have been better served...
Read moreIt was quiet when we arrived. We sat under the tree, which was lit up by lights. Our server Megan was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We decided to try the lunch special and the soup. The lunch special was an open-face meatloaf sandwich. To be clear and specific, it came out a lot nicer than we expected and what it seemed it would be. It was meatloaf medallions on top of a delicious focaccia bread, with some fluffy mashed potatoes on top. I'm not a huge fan of meatloaf, but these were flavorful and with the mashed potatoes and gravy on top, it was the best I've had in a long time. For the side, we decided to try the soup of the day, which was a curried style soup. It was all so delicious!! We were pleasantly surprised and ate every last bite. I would definitely go back to try the rest of the menu. Overall it was a...
