A Taste of South India—Authentic, Flavorful, and Family-Friendly ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ We had a wonderful dining experience at Madras Café as a family, and I’m happy to recommend it to anyone looking for authentic South Indian cuisine in Calgary. There’s something refreshing about a restaurant that isn’t trying to imitate others—they’re confidently themselves, and it shows in the flavor, presentation, and hospitality. 🌶️ Bold Flavors & Well-Seasoned Dishes Every dish we ordered was made with care and rich, balanced seasoning. We enjoyed: • Butter Chicken – rich and creamy, with just the right amount of spice • Garlic Naan – fresh, warm, and perfectly charred • Chicken 65 – crispy, bold, and packed with South Indian flair • Chicken Biryani – aromatic and satisfying, with generous portions • Dosa with assorted chutneys – thin, crispy dosa served with a delightful variety of chutneys that brought contrasting notes to every bite This isn’t generic Indian food—it’s thoughtfully prepared and rooted in tradition. 😊 Friendly Service, Warm Atmosphere The staff were incredibly welcoming and attentive, adding to the positive experience. The ambience is clean, simple, and tasteful—a space that makes you feel relaxed and cared for without any pretension. 🌱 More Than a Meal In a busy and often divided world, it’s comforting to sit down as a family and share good food made with care. Places like Madras Café quietly remind us that hospitality and joy can still flourish, even in the everyday. There’s something hopeful about that. Wishing the owners and staff every blessing—peace in your hearts, joy in your work, and favor in the days ahead. May this place continue to be a gift to many.

Ordered Masala Dosa combo (w/ Idli and Vada), Hyderabad Dosa, Pizza Dosa for the kid and a chicken 65 as an appetizer. The 65 was super tender and delicious. My kid enjoyed the pizza dosa. My wife was forewarned by staff regarding the spice level of Hyderabadi dosa as it's spread with green chilli paste. It was quite spicy but it's just what my wife loves. She was happy with the food and happy that they still warned her. My masala dosa combo was pretty standard. I just thought it would have more 'masala' but it was a little bland to me. The chutneys and sambar was good. I just wasn't impressed with the potato stuffing in the dosa. But I can forget all that as the service was simply amazing. We were asked multiple times by different servers if everything is good. Restaurant was quite packed as it's the weekend. I really appreciated it, I believe the owner came once as well. Despite the minor shortcomings, I could walk away feeling pleased due to their service. I will return and try something else next time!

Tried this place for the first time and we were super disappointed. Firstly, the ambiance is very appealing and I love the decor and it was very clean. The hostesses were friendly too. They need to figure out their plate timing for multiple dishes, you don't serve two people's meals 20 mins apart and bring out part of one meal like its an appetizer, bring them all together or couple mins apart at least. We ordered 3 main dishes and the first one was the mutton kabobs that came out on a skillet that wasnt even sizzling, then another 10 minutes later the biryani came out, then another 15mins after that the malai kofta came out. The malai kofta was absolutely terrible and the hostess offered us a replacement dish , the mutton kabobs were super dry and chewy and missing flavor, the biryani was just okay but not great. $9.99 for a mocktail without alcohol....?? With their prices on the higher end, the food sure dosent match. I don't know how their reviews are high, I will not be back.

If you're a fan of South Indian cuisine, look no further than Madras Cafe in Carrington – a hidden gem that's truly a must-visit for anyone in the area. This restaurant brings authentic flavors of the subcontinent to Canada with a mastery that’s hard to come by.

The Hyderabad Chili Dosa is an absolute standout: crispy on the outside and perfectly balanced in flavor, the heat from the chilies is complemented by a refreshing tang, making it a delightful dish. Each bite bursts with a unique blend of spices, making it both savory and satisfying.

The Vada Sambar and Idlis are equally impressive. The vadas are crispy on the outside, soft and moist on the inside, a perfect contrast to the rich and aromatic sambar. The idlis are steamed to perfection – light, fluffy, and fresh, a true testament to the restaurant’s attention to detail. You can taste the freshness in every dish, something that’s all too rare in many restaurants these days.

The Madurai Masala is another exceptional dish. Rich in flavor with a depth of spices, it’s a warm, comforting plate that highlights the skill behind the cooking at Madras Cafe.

And let's not forget about the filter coffee – it’s an absolute must-try. Rich, aromatic, and full of depth, this traditional South Indian brew is the perfect way to end your meal and will leave you craving more.

It's not often you come across a South Indian restaurant in Canada that gets it so right, with every dish done to perfection. Whether you're a long-time lover of this cuisine or a newcomer, this place will not disappoint. An absolute culinary gem that makes you want to return again and again. Highly...

I am always eager to try something new. I received many recommendations about their grill fish so I went to try it out. I went with my family to celebrate my dad’s birthday as he is a foodie and loves good fish. There is plenty of parking, easy to find a spot. We were warmly welcomed by the staff, seated in less than 5 minutes. The ambiance is vibrant and eye catching. The seating arrangement is very nice.

As we sat I already had few things on my list to try. As we got the menu we added few more things.

We ordered tandoori pomfret (fish), chicken tikka, 65 chicken biryani, mutton madras curry, rice, naan and drinks. The food took a little while to be served but was piping hot and fresh. The pomfret and 65 chicken were the star of the meal. We re-ordered them both as everyone loved the taste of it. Chicken tikka was good in taste but the mutton curry was different, not something of my palate. Naan was yum and so were the chutneys that were served with the food.

We ended the day with the traditional coffee which I personally loved it. Overall, an amazing experience. I highly recommend this place to go with family and friends. (Sorry no photos I was busy eating and complementing the...
