Not a kid friendly place. Outdated place. It's almost screaming for an update from the inside with sad little decor and painting that remind me of my Nana's house. Almost reminds me of an old school, dinghy, smokey and dusty diner. The staff are incredibly nice but whenever someone of color enters the restaurant everyone stares. It was like no one ever saw a brown mixed family order before or let alone sit down in a restaurant. The service for me was slow. I had to get the servers attention a few times just to request a drink or utensils. Everything had to be asked for rather than all ready and placed on the table when we arrived. Service was snail like slow, food was overly slated, drinks that came in a can were already open before they were handed to me, and not to mention whenever I got up to pick up something that dropped or even go to the bathroom the whole room stopped and stared like I was about to pull a jack move. (I definitely don't look like that type of person🤓) everything was slow except the check. It was almost pre pre ready along with the to go container. He might as well have pointed me to the door. Extra small seating arrangements is probably why it made the environment uncomfortable. It could have been that rather than all eyes on me for sticking out like a sore thumb. If you're comfortable with close up action with everyone watching your move, salty/watery/over priced food, a t.v is available to watch and a lingering smoked out looking ambiance then that's your place! The female waitress was the best part of that experience. She was easy going, inviting and didn't look at me judgementally but helped me to feel a bit at ease. The place is a small environment but still a place to go if you're in Bowness and are hungry. Parking is available in the front of the store. When it gets busy, sure it feels like packed sardines but the place has been around for a while so I'm sure they are doing something right. 😊 They do have seating arrangements outside which might be best for wheel accessibility but probably not that much better...

We started with a large ceasar salad - enough to feed 3-4 people. The salad was AHmazing. The dressing was garlicky, lemon, anchovy, goodness 👌🏼Perfectly balanced and could’ve ate it all to myself.
The kiddos (2 girls aged 10 and under) shared a kids spaghetti with homemade cream sauce and a side fries. $18 for it all and we took half of it home. The fries were seasoned perfectly (had to do the parent ‘check’ and eat a cpl… it was a good fry day 👌🏼) and the pasta sauce was so creamy. The kids were happy to say the least.
The husband and I shared the all meat pizza and the seafood pizza with cream sauce. The meat pizza wasn’t crazy stacked with cheap meats…it had a variety of quality ingredients / spices (basil, fennel, tomatoes) and you could taste the homemade sauce. The cheese on top was a little crispy at the edges and cheese bubbles on top - yum. The seafood pizza was delectably sinful. The cream sauce didn’t over power but elevated the seafood flavour. Salty, creamy, delightful. We ordered two mediums and took over half of each home. They are filling!!
The only downfall was the no A/C on a hot day, the husband was sweating a little … ok a lot … Service was great. Food was great. The final consensus was: totally would go again! Great prices, you can taste the love...
Read moreAre you looking for a nostalgic 70s vibe and fantastic food? The Place is where it's at. I take my mom here every so often, and she tells me stories about The Place back in the 70s when there was a juke box in the corner. Seriously, it hasnt changed a whole lot since back then, and it works.
The ceasar salad is the most simplistic but delicious combination. I don't know what it is. The food is hearty, and you will need a to go container given the portions. The pizza is on point, and you'd be happy with whatever combo you choose. They do pasta incredibly well, I chose the chicken Parmigiano, and the server recommended I have it baked with the marinara sauce and spaghetti - no regrets with this choice. The marinara is so flavourful and homemade!
My mom chose the veal with a baked potato and there was no way she was finishing that plate. I think she got 2 more meals out of it!
The service is wonderful, authentic and friendly. You know it's a good place when people come in and the server knows their names. Life isn't like that very often.
Take a chance and visit The Place. It's family...
