I came here with a client of mine for the first time this week. We usually go to Haru Sushi and Grill, but there is no dine in there right now so we tried here. It was kind of a mixed bag here and I will explain why. We entered at about 7:30pm. When we entered it seemed pretty dead inside with stools all up on top of the center bar. No one ever really came to greet us, but the owner, a man with glasses waved us in from the other side of the restaurant. We sat in one of the Red booths. The same man came up to us and explained that the menu is available by scanning the QR code and then left. He came back a couple of minutes later and we ordered some Shrimp Salad Rolls, Wor Won Tong Soup and Seafood Stir-fry. The food came out quickly as per usual at most Vietnamese restaurants and was pretty good. The Seafood Stir-fry had many vegetables and very little seafood (check out the photos). The soup and salad rolls were good though. We ate and then ordered shrimp satay and were told that the kitchen may be closed so he'll check. They ultimately made them and then served them. A few minutes later we were told that the restaurant had closed at 8pm and that we need to go. I would recommend to the owner that when people sit down in your restaurant near closing time as we apparently did, please warn the customer from the beginning so they don't get ready to camp out and talk. It felt abrupt especially as 8pm is a little earlier close time than many other restaurants. 9pm is pretty usual in Calgary. So all in all not great, not bad. I hope this review conveys that.

Ordered for the entire family a couple months ago and modified my order to have extra spring rolls and extra beef. Paid for it, picked it up, and drove it home to discover none of the extras I paid for were in my container. They delivered a $10 gift card along with the extras they missed to my house as a sorry. Today I used that gift card to buy some subs and I'm glad I did, because I wouldn't have wanted to pay for what I received. Another person has complained recently about the lack of beef in your subs to which you've apologized and offered a free meal which seems to be the trend. I feel strongly that the lack of beef is a business tactic (viet restaurants portion everything out beforehand) to lower costs and stay in business, but if you are handing out a free meal to make up for your cheap ways, are you really saving any money? To prove the point I weighed the beef I received and it came to 50 grams. To put that in perspective, a subway 6" sub has at least 125 grams on protein on it. Don't bother offering me a free meal as an apology, I know I'll never be back to take you up on it.

I’ve been to Viet Hai a handful of times during my trips to the Aspen Woods area over the past 8+ years, and despite their changes to the store and recipes, they always seem to deliver. Viet Hai is a fine establishment with proper broth and noodles - to varying degrees of quality throughout my visits. Cradled between the coffee shop Waves and other dining spots like Haru and Subway, it is situated in a nice coulda sac-like nest for students of Ambrose university and nearby residents, in which it does a great job fulfilling its role. Recently there has been a noticeable shift in taste in the pho here, but it’s still a solid pho that doesn’t disappoint. Although as others have stated in their review, some more love, care and attention could be paid to the crafting of these dishes and other menu items. The servers were short-spoken and brief with small talk, but quick and courteous, and overall I would say this is one of a couple pho noodle shops worth going to if you are in northwest Calgary.

Absolutely phenomenal! Viet Hai is hands down the best Vietnamese restaurant I have ever been to, and truly one of the best dining experiences I’ve had. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality that made me feel like a valued guest. The customer service is amazing. Every staff member is friendly, attentive, and genuinely cares about making your visit exceptional. They are always ready to offer suggestions or answer questions with a smile.

Now let’s talk about the food. Every single dish is packed with flavor, freshness, and care. The pho is deeply aromatic with a rich broth and tender slices of beef that practically melt in your mouth. The spring rolls are light and crispy, with a dipping sauce that’s absolutely addictive. The lemongrass chicken is perfectly cooked, juicy, and full of vibrant flavor. Every bite feels like a celebration of authentic Vietnamese cuisine, prepared with precision and passion.

The atmosphere at Viet Hai is just as impressive. It’s cozy, clean, and beautifully decorated with a calm, welcoming vibe. Whether you’re there for a casual lunch, a date night, or a family dinner, the setting makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. The music is soft, the lighting is warm, and everything about the environment feels inviting.

If I could give Viet Hai a 1000 out of 10, I would. I recommend it to absolutely everyone I know, every single time. Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a longtime fan of Vietnamese food, Viet Hai is guaranteed to impress....

Viet Hai is truly a hidden gem and easily the best Vietnamese restaurant I’ve ever had the pleasure of dining at. From the second you walk through the door, you’re greeted with kindness and genuine hospitality. The customer service is absolutely top-notch. The staff are welcoming, attentive, and go above and beyond to make sure every part of your meal is perfect. You feel cared for from start to finish, like you’re a regular even if it’s your first time.

The food at Viet Hai is nothing short of incredible. Every dish is crafted with fresh ingredients and bold, authentic flavors that leave a lasting impression. The beef pho is unbelievably good, with a rich, flavorful broth and tender slices of meat that are cooked just right. The banh mi sandwiches are packed with savory fillings and perfectly crusty bread. One of my favorites is the grilled pork vermicelli bowl—it’s full of color, texture, and flavor in every bite. You can taste the love and tradition in each dish.

The atmosphere inside Viet Hai is calm, clean, and comfortable. It strikes the perfect balance between casual and stylish, making it a great spot for any occasion. The décor is simple yet tasteful, the seating is cozy, and there’s a peaceful energy that makes you want to stay a little longer.

Without a doubt, I give Viet Hai a 1000 out of 10. It’s a place I tell everyone about, no matter who they are or what they’re into. If you haven’t been yet, make it your next stop. Viet Hai is an experience you...
