Waves Coffee House - Springborough — Restaurant in Calgary

Quality food, great environment, passable coffee, but horrible customer service. They made the wrong drink (asked for a Pumpkin Chai Latte, got a Pumpkin Spice Latte). My sister took one sip and realized the mistake, so since she can’t drink coffee she went to address the error. No big deal, mistakes happen. But because the cashier had rung it through as a latte and not a chai they refused to make a new drink and not once did they so much as apologize for the error. Claiming that if we wanted it to be chai we should have said so, even though I did. Now, I work customer service so I understand that mistakes happen all the time. Sometimes it’s the server’s fault and sometimes it’s the customer’s fault. But no matter what both parties should be kind and apologetic, that’s the expectation of Canadian society. However the supervisor directly blamed me for the mistake and spoke as though I was ignorant and made me feel uncomfortable. In the end they gave me half price off of a new drink. But the amount of work that it took to get that much was ridiculous. I hope this doesn’t come across as “Karen-y”, I was just so unimpressed by the lack of empathy or care they gave. Awful staff and the food is gross and overpriced. I once ordered a croissant and the middle was entirely raw. There is one staff member in particular- a woman- who is one of the rudest people I have ever met. The staff is ridiculously ageist, they kick out exclusively teenagers for doing nothing wrong. There's a group of loud, older men who come in every day (and only a couple of them ever buy anything) and they constantly leave trash on the table (one time they left a dirty bandaid on the table!) yet the staff has never had any problem with them. They will kick out teens for coming in if they don't buy anything, yet never adults. I used to come in every day to study (as many do) with my two friends- one of which buys a drink every day, and they kicked me out randomly one day for not buying a drink (even though I often buy bottled drinks, just not on that particular day). Appalled at the rudeness and cheapness of the manager/owner. I ordered a cookie and sat down. Sometime later I ordered a kids size hot chocolate that I have been ordering for years. The manager quickly responded with “kids is for kids” I didn’t think much of it and changed the size of my drink. As, the rude and cheap manager made my drink she spilt it all over the countertop and cup. I watched her wipe the countertop and the cup with a rag she had just used to “clean” all the dirty tables. She cleaned majority of the cup but a large amount was still on the side of the cup and she had also wiped the lid with the rag. I asked nicely for another cup and she quickly and rudely responded with “why do you need another cup” I responded with “it’s dirty” she cleaned it and handed me it.
