Wow that was some terrible service last night. We had more people in our group than was expected. The server refused help when another waitress offered to take orders. Food should not be delivered to one of our five large tables when she had not even taken the order of others. This was unacceptably greedy of the server especially as we heard her turn down another server's offer to help take orders. I realize people moved around when we wouldn't all fit in the reserved party room. An experienced server would take individual's names and continue with the separate cheques/ ordering. It's easy to ask a table "hey anyone know where Kim is?" rather than asking over and over "who had the wee burger?" I arrived at 5:45 pm and left at 9:10 pm. My friend and I each had 2 pops. My free refill glass remained empty the bulk of my stay and was empty while I actually ate. I was the last person to receive my food at our table of eight people. They were more than half done their meals when I received mine. No apology for the lateness....just a relieved "Good everyone has food in front of them" from the waitress. My goat cheese burger was excellent. I tried my friend's British poutine which was great. I upgraded my fries to mac 'n cheese for a cost. It was absolutely disgusting. The pasta was "scoobie" noodles with a milky broth in the bottom. There was zero visible cheese and it was tasteless. The waitress never came back to ask anyone how the food was at our table. It took me a while to flag another server down to send back the mac 'n cheese. I was completely done my meal when replacement fries arrived. When we asked a different server if she could ask about getting our bills she came back and told us we needed to walk through the crowd to the other end of the restaurant to our server at the terminal as "it's easier for her to do the payment there as it's confusing". I guess it was too much to print off all the bills in readiness to hand out to customers. It's much easier to scroll through each bill while I watch her try to find mine. My bill also had to be fixed as the extra charge for mac' n cheese had to be removed. For the first time in my life I wanted to tip zero and was not able to. I could have been missing something but the handheld would not allow me to put in zero. The waitress got an...
Read moreI was back in Cambridge to meet up with my friends and catch the Leafs game. The guys like to go to the Dutch and Dutchess, now I know why. This is a great place to get together will friends to catch a game and not be afraid of making too much noise. The restaurant is wide open with lots of tables, large TVs, a small bar, outdoor tables and lots of soccer scarves adorning the walls. The interior is not too fancy and has a casual vibe so it is perfect to have a good time, a date night but not really romantic if that is what you are looking for. I have been wanting to come to check out the restaurant for some time after taking a look at their menu online. The restaurant has a great selection to meet anyone's tastes and boasts a really good selection of authentic British dishes, all at very good prices. I went with the ribs that were the special that night and was able to switch up to rice from the fries at no extra cost. A full rack of ribs for $20 dollars, you can't go wrong and they were fall-off-the-bone. I was tempted by the butter chicken dinner but I will have to try it next time for sure. They also had a good selection of varied beers on tap plus some British selections, again all at a very good price - $5.75 for a 20 0z draft or bottled beer. Our server, Sarah, was fantastic as our group filtered in slowly and took my food and drink order shortly after I arrived. She was very polite, knew the menu inside and out, was very attentive while we were there and had a smile the whole time. The restaurant is very accessible with really no steps, only one to get up to the bar and a lowered curb at the entrance. There is lots of parking and it is conveniently located right near with 401 so great for me since I am from out of town. I very much enjoyed my experience at the Duke and Dutchess and intend to come back to sample many more of the dishes on the menu. Thanks again...
Read moreI have been coming to this place for years. Overall, great food and great service. A few points:
Recently, there's new draft glasses, which are smaller than the originals, but the same price. Watch for that.
The food is excellent, with the exception of the beer-battered burgers. They taste processed, frozen, and fake. The other burgers are really good. The worst item on the menu are the nachos. I was in this week for some. Once in a while, I decide to try them again to see if they improve. Each time, the Duke one-ups itself for the worst nachos in North America. At best, you would get stale chips with a handful of shredded cheese. This week, I decided to pay $3 for "extra cheese". They came out with a cheese SAUCE on them - like they had to run to the variety store and buy some Doritos cheese sauce to microwave and pour on the chips. Most disgusting crap I have ever tasted. That being said, the rest of the fare is very good and reasonably priced.
Staff - the service is very good. In all the years, I only had poor service once, and never saw that waitress again. The girls are all friendly and attentive. Most are beautiful busty schoolgirls, with the odd fat one thrown in to remain PC.
Bathrooms are clean and smell nice, which is another plus.
Overall, I think this is certainly the best place to go in Hespeler, hands-down. I would say it's the best pub/sports bar in...
