I get the privilege of traveling all over canada for work. I have been doing this for almost 30 years. I have been searching out proper "old English" fish and chips restaurants from Victoria British Columbia, all the way to St John's Newfoundland. I visited the Riverside Fish Hut today in Cambridge Ontario, it is by far the best fish and chips restaurant that I have ever visited so far. The staff is very friendly, and the chef was willing to take time out of her busy day to have a conversation with me about how good the food was. Proper light battered fish, and hand cut fresh chips (NOT FROZEN CRAP FRIES), friendly and prompt customer service and what seems to be less than market price..... there aren't many places like this left in this country. If you're in Cambridge, eat here! You won't be disappointed.
I went down to this excellent restaurant 4 days after the last visit, and consistency is important.... not only did the same wonderful lady greet me at the counter, but she actually remembered my name, I sat at the same table, and had the very same meal, I will be eating here at least 1 more time before I leave.... if you haven't had fish.and chips here you're...
Read moreI happened to come across Riverside Fish and Chips while exploring the area, and it turned out to be such a great find! From the moment I took my first bite, I could tell how fresh the fish was—it had this incredible crispiness on the outside while still being tender and flaky inside. What really surprised me was how their recipe manages to stay so true to traditional fish and chips, but with a unique twist that makes it different from other places I’ve been to.
The halibut is easily my favorite—cooked perfectly every time, and always bursting with flavor. I also couldn’t resist adding gravy, which is rich and savory, and their coleslaw has the right amount of crunch and tang. To top it all off, their homemade tartar sauce is probably the best I’ve ever had; it complements the fish so well without overpowering it.
It’s one of those spots you wouldn’t expect to find but feel lucky when you do. I’m already looking forward to my next visit and can’t recommend it enough to anyone who loves classic, high-quality fish and chips with a bit of a...
Read moreHad a very long and tiresome day on the 23rd, absolutely starving we decided to take a chance at a place we’ve never been before since we don’t live in the area. To our surprise our minds were blown by some of the most delicious fish and chips and shrimp we’ve ever had! And the prices were amazing too. I got halibut and chips, my partner got cod and we tried their popular fried shrimp recommended and prepared by our waitresses word.
Speaking of the waitress, I wish I remembered her name but she had a smile and a face you couldn’t forget, a beautiful presence, one of the best and kindest waitresses we’ve ever had, thank you! I would travel back here for the service and atmosphere alone.
The batter on the fish is unmatched, very light and crispy, not oily at all. Great portions and the fries seemed fresh and well seasoned. I’m not a coleslaw person myself but their coleslaw was delicious! I highly recommend this place to any passerby’s or locals who’ve never tried yet. Thank you for making our day much better with the love in your food. We...
