Just moved to the area and decided to look for caribbean food in the area. Found one place that was good at first then got worse. Found another that's been amazing, however they were closed by the time we got there today. Decided to try this spot since we had never and its on the way....well lets just say we wished we kept going. At the door to walk in the place is grimy with a weird smell and over-all not very inviting. We still proceeded, despite the warning signs. Got in and looked at grimy melted plastic menus and still ordered. Got a beef patty, it was decent.
Ordered curry goat with white rice coleslaw and an extra order of plantain. My husband ordered stew chicken, rice and peas with coleslaw and an extra side of plantain. Also ordered a single order of jerk chicken to taste it...
Well the curry goat was salty and lacked flavor, the white rice was old and hard but drenched in gravy. The coleslaw was the only fresh and good tasting thing there. Dont get me started on the plantain, so hard it hurt my teeth to try to bite into, definitely is old and refried at least twice. The rice and peas was alright I guess and the stew chicken lacked flavor. The jerk was dry but the best flavored thing we bought.
Definitely glad we tried it when we weren't famished to have a true analysis of the flavor, we wont be going back. We plan to make sure we get to the other place "Irie Myries" before they close.
P.S. wish I read the reviews before...

Today I learned that it's worthwhile to step outside my comfort zone, just a little.
That meant ordering supper from a Restaurant (the Silver Spoon in Cambridge, ON) that I'd never heard of before. "Caribbean" cuisine is a kind of food I'd never really sampled either.
I chose their fried chicken dinner. It was, in a word, amazing! The chicken ranks very high on my favourite fried chicken list. It was so very tender and tasty. Accompanying that was rice with "peas" and "gravy." The peas weren't the green veggies that I was used to but were actually red kidney beans. The Jamaican gravy was delicious. Coleslaw was part of the meal also and our gang was unanimous in declaring it exceptional.
The rest of my family chose either the Jerk Chicken dinner, or beef patties. All of us enjoyed the rice, peas, and gravy. Each Diner stated that they very much enjoyed their meal.
I should say that the Chef went out of his way to correct our order (there had been some miscommunication over the phone) and treated us very well in tallying up our bill.
The Silver Spoon should absolutely be on your list of restaurants to try in the Kitchener-Waterloo, Cambridge...
Read moreWe used to love coming to this restaurant especially for soup. The service we got when we were here, the other day, was very poor. The lady who works there, looks like she doesn't enjoy what she is doing, no people's skills at all This day we ordered what was supposed to be a fish soup for starters, but it was just water flavored with a canned fish. My friend didn't even touched hers and I tried to eat mine but I couldn't as well. We proceeded to order our mains, i had oxtail with Roti and i didn't like their kind of Roti. She was charged for the soup, though she didn't eat it. The service is so poor that we decided it was our last time coming to this place. We love to support Black businesses, but sometimes, they make it challenging. The service we got from a Turkish restaurant a day before coming here was day and night I dont have pictures, i deleted them...
