We were told by an acquaintance there was this really good Mexican Restaurant in Camrose. My wife was excited to try this restaurant. Me less so. My food tastes lean towards more traditional western cuisine; she’s all flavour and spices. I decided to surprise her by stopping at La Azteca today. She could have her food choice today and I would use this gesture as leverage the next time we ate out. We were greeted promptly and courteously by the owner. After viewing the menu, she chose a churizo burrito with Mexican rice. I settled for something more neutral; a pollo quesadilla with refried beans. We received our ice water; she green tea; me iced tea. By the way the iced tea was real iced tea, not the over sugared drink Canadians are usually served. The iced tea was delicious; cold flavourful tea with lemon slice and mint leaves. Perfect beverage on a hot day. Our food was prepared and served promptly. My wife really enjoyed her food. The burrito was a good size with plenty of fresh ingredients; a generous portion of nicely seasoned Mexican rice. She was really pleased with her meal. I was served a large nicely stuffed quesadilla cut in half with small side dishes of diced tomatoes, refried beans and sour cream. Time to prepare the quesadilla by adding some tomatoes and sour cream; dipped a corner into the refried beans. Time to taste. The taste and flavours were unexpected. Fresh well seasoned ingredients really nicely prepared and presented. The wrap was really tasty and the ingredients really complimented each other; flavourful fresh but not overly spicy. I was blown away at how much I enjoyed my meal. I am looking forward to trying something else on the menu in the very near future. If your tastes lean towards meat and potatoes but you are looking for something different, I highly recommend La Azteca (located downtown Camrose). Compliments to the owner/management on the...
Read moreIncredible space, I love that trips to the bathroom are visually engaging: the walls have brilliant color & beautiful graphics (one of my fav details). The various seating options are great, first date to 100th date vibes, there's a fair level of ambience from music and since it's usually pretty full the background noise makes the room feel even more lively! The long, viking style table and long benches to match give an awesome party group option, the more casual style seating I find fun. The food is incredible, I have to recommend the street food section of their menu, there are 4 options and they're all great. I'm celiac so I pretty much always choose their baked potato, beans, guacamole, etc. Nachos! I hope I remembered that it's Nachos correctly....I could be wrong. I've had 3 people on isolated visits, ask what I ordered because they thought it was appetizing. 😅 Take that...
Read moreOne on my favorite places in Camrose to get food. The servers here are super friendly and seem like they genuinely care about creating a great atmosphere and serving the best food they can.
There's a pretty good selection of meats here, but I tend to stick with a couple that I have become fond of. The Quesabirrias are my favorite. The tortillas are cooked perfectly and the birria is very juicy. Their enchiladas are also a favorite, the sauce is some of the best I've had on it.
Overall, La Azteca has become one of my favorite places to go for date nights since they opened. I do suggest trying to make a reservation, especially during peak times. I've never been told there aren't any tables, but I have seen it packed...
