Terrible experience - I’ll never go back.
I called at 11 am for a 7 PM takeout order. When I arrived to pick up my order there were several people who were in my situation. I didn’t get my food until past 8:30 and the order wasn’t even correct.
I will say that there was only 1 server working but if you are short staffed, either only accept take out, or dine in options. Not only that but as they were over an hour and a half late on orders, they were still taking more take out orders, and even sitting new guest!
I hate to say it but I worked in the restaurant industry for a decade and when situations like this happen, you have to at least give people a discount, or offer some free products and they couldn’t even throw in free bread. Disgusting.
I have never written a negative review about a restaurant before but tonight’s experience was just too much to not say something.
Food is good but this was such a terrible experience, I won’t be back, and will encourage others to go to another restaurant.
Disclaimer* this was Valentine’s Day but as I mentioned above, to be an hour and a half late, to continue to take more orders and sit new people (which slowed down the process even more), and not not even try to compensate at all is just...
Read moreWe are brand new to town and Sagar came highly recommended by locals. After our first visit, we completely understand the hype over it! Amazing, authentic Indian food prepared by a humble, caring and sincere chef and staffed by kind and professional servers. On top of that, they have clearly laid out sections within the menu for non-vegetarian dishes, vegetarian dishes and vegan dishes. Between 1001 allergies as well as dietary needs - the chef (I regret now not asking his name - but I'll be sure to ask when we are back again!) was more than happy to accommodate us and modify dishes as needed. He often checked up on us to ensure everything was prepared just right! The hospitality at Sagar is above and beyond any expectations and we will be back as often as we can! While you're there, be sure to try the Palak Paneer, Vegetable Biryani and Vegetable Manchurian and make sure to stop by at lunch for their lunchtime specials! See you again soon, Sagar...
Read moreScruffy on the outside on Carleton Place's old main street, the restaurant is close to elegant inside, with white linen tablecloths and tea candles and artwork. The place was spotless and service was quick and polite, but the food was the high point: authentic, fresh, beautifully cooked. I had lamb vindaloo and saag paneer, although I forget what the saag is actually called on the menu. Both were great.
I expected and feared that the vindaloo would be toned down for North American tastes, but happily, I was wrong: the dish was subtly but very seriously spicy, as it should be. The saag was also excellent. I dislike paneer cheese, but to my surprise I found this version enjoyable.
Be warned that portions are large. I was very hungry, but I still had to take almost half of each dish home in a take-out box.
Sagar is 30 miles from where I live in Ottawa, but I'm going back. It's well...
