One foggy day I went to the Bartliff bakery. I was feeling quite bland, and as I pulled up to the polished Clinton streets, I didn't have the highest hopes. It looked clean and had as many customers it could fit jammed inside; two signs of hope, but it was just a bake shoppe like any other... right?
The interior was unassuming, yet had a charming vibe and there was an elderly lady dealing out desserts, with a passionate twinkle in her squeaky clean eyes. As I stood in line with my menage I couldn't help but overhear a wholesome squabble between two gentlewomen and a wasp and it made my mater chuckle gaily.
Finally came time for us to order and so we hastily dawned our eyes on the pristine displays. Before us were rows upon rows of divine delectables which I could tell with just a quick look were fresh and homemade, with bucketfuls of love and irreplaceable authenticity.
We waited and watched in restless anticipation as a young woman with blond locks carefully boxed our order. "Two Lemon Squares, Four Apple Fritters, A Hello Dolly and Chocolate Cheesecake, please"
When came time for us to pay and be on our way, we wasted no time. Donning our caps we snatched our parcels up with heaps of gusto and a quick; "Thank You!" What a bakery Bartliff's Bakery is.
Lemon Squares: Good but a bit basic. Any pleasant mom could replicate them. Apple Fritters: My sister says they are very good and they have a good amount of real apple pieces in them. Hello Dolly: I didn't think it was that good, it was a bit dry. I expected too much of it maybe. Chocolate Cheesecake: I would drive hours for this cheesecake literally any day of the week. Every aspect of this dessert legit must have floated down from heaven because THIS IS THE BEST DAMN DESSERT I'VE EVER HAD. I have never loved chocolate really but I stand by that I would choose this over any other sweet. If you like dessert and you are within 4 hours of Clinton BUY THIS MF TREAT I...
Read moreWe drove here from London after reading the positive reviews knowing we were going to be in the area. We were lucky to find a parking spot right at the front of the building as it’s only street parking which I could see would be problematic during busy hours. We walked in and were greeted with a neat, clean restaurant. It was a “seat yourself” environment which is fine. We were greeted quickly by a friendly waitress who gave us our menus and took our drink order. All 3 of us wanted the Sunday special which actually didn’t start until 11am, but the waitress was kind enough to allow us to order it 50 minutes early. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience wasn’t all that positive. The food arrived cold. It wouldn’t have been worth sending back and risking them nuking it in a microwave, so we made the best of it. Our meal was supposed to come with a dinner roll but it didn’t. We had to literally flag down the waitress to ask for the roll. She told us that most people don’t want the rolls, so she didn’t even bother bringing it out. Would have been nice to be asked at least! The waitressing also seemed to go downhill as we had to keep flagging our waitress down. Our dessert was also supposed to come with the meal but it didn’t seem as if we were going to be offered any. Again, we had to ask the waitress about the dessert and were then given the choices from the baked goods in the front displays. We noticed flies inside the displays landing on all the baked goods which was pretty unappealing. We selected our desserts and then left. Overall, we didn’t find the food all that well prepared and the fact everything was cold wasn’t positive either. Based on our experience, we won’t be back. My elderly mother also got locked in the bathroom as the lock wasn’t functioning properly. The restrooms are also located at the bottom of some very steep stairs which isn’t handicapped accessible or really elderly...
Read moreMy sister ordered a birthday cake and when my mom and I got there to pick it up they told us the order never got brought down to the baker.. my mother had called the previous day to confirm and give her credit card and the girl rushed her off the phone and didn’t even confirm the order- if they had they would’ve realized the order was never processed. We understand mistakes happen and they did offer to give us a different cake but when asked if they could write on it “happy birthday Benny” which they agreed to, they let us sit there for 50 minutes waiting for it to come back out without even checking in on the cake. The girls kept walking away from us whenever we tried to ask and made eye contact with us as we sat there for almost an hour and finally when we asked about it she went to check and the cake came right out so it was probably just sitting in the back done. These girls have no idea how to do customer service and would’ve just let us sit there all day. We were obviously late to the party. Definitely lost our entire family as customers because of their obnoxious behaviour. Finally when we got the cake the box was disgusting and full of other food and icing we couldn’t not serve it in the box. Don’t recommend...
