First let me start by saying, there were things about this meal that were very good. The server was lovely and caring. The vegetables on the burger and in the Caesar salad were crisp and fresh. The homemade burger sauce was one of the best I have had. The Caesar dressing was made in house and was very good. The liver and onions my wife had were superb, and a nice surprise to find on a menu today. My criticisms were that the Burger was ground fine, spiced poorly and overcooked. I was told it was house made by the server and fresh and it seemed to be more like a poor premade patty. I was told it was not, but I think can definitely be improved. A burger is a simple thing, good fresh ground chuck or brisket beef, seared well, spiced with salt and pepper....but no one seems to be able to make a good one anymore in Canada. The other issue was 1/2 Carafe of wine.....25 dollars, but seemingly oxidized and poor taste, I attributed to storage. I am told they use boxed wine to avoid this, so it may have been heat, or just past date, but again assured after that this is not the norm. Chase is small, so the options are few, but this place is lovely, clean and has a broad menu. I noted the lasagne at the table next to us was a huge portion and looked and smelled very good. There are many other options that have great potential. Update: I heard from the owner, as she was diligent in reading the reviews, and responded directly to me. She was lovely and very engaged in ensuring that Railside is nothing but the best and wanted to know specific details about the meal and experience. She pledged to make it better and realized after talking to me some of what could have been the issue that night and assured me it is not the norm, by any stretch. I am going back as this is definitely someone wanting to make things not just better, but as good as possible. She is definitely not the normal of today, where quality, value, and exceptional are not even possible in most places. Most restaurants try to have a 4 star charge, while offering as little as possible with pre made, par cooked, microwaved or warmed up mediocrity. Not the case here. They are trying hard to be different, and I...
Read moreAfter hearing amazing things about the food and staff from a lot of people, we decided to make a drive to Chase from Kamloops, order dinner for takeout and eat at Memorial Park. The staff were super friendly & welcoming and dinner only took 15 minutes till ready! Our order of a Jalapeño popper appy, Battered mushrooms appy, the Greek Burger, and a 2 piece fish and chips were DELICIOUS (and be aware we are picky foodies!) Big hot portions, very generous dips and condiments (tzatziki was excellent), cutlery, and lots of napkins and the food in labelled containers which we appreciated. My husband really enjoyed the unique Greek burger on pita bread with tzatziki, feta and crisp veggies. The fish was large, thick, bright white and had an excellent crispy light beer batter. Fresh cut fries were awesome and coleslaw was crunchy and fresh. Appys were good…nice and crunchy and “more-ish”. I brought home half my meal for lunch tomorrow! We eat out often and have become very disillusioned with most of the restaurants in BC’s interior. The Railside did not disappoint in the slightest and is now on our favourites list. Great food, great staff. Well worth the 45 min scenic drive from Kamloops. HIGHLY...
Read moreMy wife and I just finished having dinner at the Railside Restaurant. It was our 20th anniversary. It was a truly enjoyable experience. I had the prime rib with Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, gravy and mixed vegetables. Probably the best prime rib I’ve ever had. The whole dish was excellent, but the vegetables were little flavour bombs…so good. I’m not sure if they were sautéed or roasted, but they were excellent.
My wife had the ribs and she opted for French fries and no vegetables (that still baffles me). She is very much a foodie, a former restaurant owner and an extraordinary cook in her own right, but who is notoriously hard to please. Even she was very impressed. I heard her saying that the ribs were done to perfection. That is something I have heard her say very few times in the past 20 years.
Our waitress, Katie asked us if we wanted a free dessert. She brought us a big chocolate brownie drizzled with a chocolate sauce, with whipped cream and sprinkles in dish with 2 spoons…exactly what we needed to finish off our dinner. To all of the staff, especially Katie we want to thank them for giving us great service, a memorable experience and a very...
