The food's good, but the atmosphere was a little off. I don't know why, but the old Asian server was so rude. You work in service, yet you acted as if we were a burden for asking for something three times. We couldn't think of what we needed at first since we were focused on eating. Still, you raised your voice at my wife and said things to her. Who in the world would say, "I'm not your slave?" We already apologized. We weren't trying to keep asking for "important" things like water or an extra bowl for you to say that to us. Who in their right mind would say that to a customer they are serving? You went to the kitchen and yelled and badmouthed us in your language, as if I didn't know some of the words you said, trying to play the victim. You were there to work. We used to come here for family gatherings and when we were craving sushi, but after my second encounter with this old Asian server and her rudeness, I won't anymore. I'll make sure to tell my family and friends about it. Your food is good, but THAT...
Read moreWhat a major bummer in what could have been a dope time. First time we came here the Filipino lady and old man were awesome and made great food. Second time, I’m charged $12 for a salmon avocado roll, the salmon gets handed to another dude, and then when I call them out on it, this older Asian lady snaps and tells me to stop spreading “misinformation. You don’t like the food, then don’t come back. Your choice.” Well I won’t be back. Serious harsh to my mellow. Trying hard to find the kindness in Chetwynd, and there’s glimmers of it. But then you have an encounter like this and it makes me want to never come back to this town. Thank god for table XII I guess. FYI I through the roll directly into the garbage - not risking time off work due to poor food handling...
Read moreThe staff at New Tokyo are very friendly and the food is pretty good. Prices are as-expected for a sushi place in Northern BC, though I find the portions to be more generous - my black dynamite roll was stuffed full of imitation crab and tempura prawn, with only slivers of vegetables, which is definitely my preference!
Edit: I've been going to New Tokyo since they were open over by 7-Eleven and I'm always impressed with the quality of food here. The staff are friendly and gracious and the food is sooo delicious. Their Chicken Yaki Soba is the best my wife and I have ever tried anywhere. I'm glad that they've survived the competition when Edo and encourage locals to vote with their dollar to keep New...
